so first off run down of my main oc stories, then the loose ocs i have running about

so! my main story out of everything is ashstone!! my silly lil metaphor for trauma and isolation i adore it so much, basically fucked up mountain based off the highlands and islands and everyones mentally ill on it And Good God There;s Beasts

next we have the one i havent worked on in a while cause i had to give it a major renovation and its. still unnamed sobs and goes by the working title "experiment gang" cause that was the joke name for the main characters but anyway five human experiment guys with superpowers become the worst found siblings ever and try to explode the government

and last main one rn is helmine!! fucked up selkie story cause i needed something more than ashstone to process some shit, a 23 year old selkie finds out ai is in fact a selkie and forces ais friends to come along on a murder quest to find ais sealskin, things go wrong!

one of my more iconic ones is lazarus, he DID have a story to go with him but i dont like it anymore, i still like him though

basically hes got a bunch of fucked up superpowers that genuinely hurt to use but he does it anyway even though hes been told not to

hes like 49 and hes a whore and keeps doing body horror shit unprompted for fun

been thinking about neopronounsing him but nothing quite feels like him

another fun oc i have a care about a lot is gwendolyn sloughton!! gwen for short, shes so fucked up

basically her whole thing is shes got some subconscious reality altering power, shes not even aware of it cause shes grown up with it, so like for example for her 12th birthday she Really wanted a dog but her parents couldnt afford one at the time but when she came home from school there was a dog waiting for her out of nowhere

unfortunately shes not a good person!! so it turned from innocent things to "i wonder what it would be like to watch someone get hit by a car" and shit, and low and behold it happens

she also kills people in her 20s cause she can get away with it due to this, its really fun to write especially cause other people around her can pick up on things being changed around her but she has no idea

MOVING ON FROM GWENS MURDER PALACE!!! we now have ribs my beloved

hes a werecrocodile!! and theyve kinda grown up completely feral in the middle of nowhere about it

also has a lot of scars and even missing half their left hand from doing crocodile things and fighting with others

hes another bitch who originally had a story but i dont remember anyones name in it but basically he accidentally got kidnapped and now theres a werecroc lost in the big city, surely nothing will go wrong

last one im thinking about rn is almyra!!

shes a funky lil sentient dimension that Believes shes the ghost of a woman who died in like 1904, in reality she was there before the woman [the real almyra] was even born its just when she was murdered things got worse

she thinks shes just haunting the house almyra died in, shes not, shes taken over a entire town and her reach is still growing

a lot of people go missing cause of her and she doesnt even realise it

Have you written any lore about the selkies in your original story? Do you have any neat ideas/or facts about them?

so they all stay pretty far north for the most part, in colder waters and a number of them have even started living in the arctic, though these are usually young adults

newborns look more like a cross between seals and humans, fuzzy with lil bald spots on their hands, face and chest, short arms and no legs just a seal tail, after a few months of life [3-6 months usually] these bald spots disappear and they appear to be regular seals but really its just their pelt has matured, they can swim just fine but around 8 months their guardian will start taking them out of their pelt for a few minutes so they can learn to walk like a human when in their humanoid form

they have minor atmokinesis and the ability to curse, few ever use it and its usually reserved for times of grief or anger, for example a selkie who has had their family killed by humans may curse those responsible to be taken by a storm

yknow that video going around of a cat crunching really loudly? they do that!

theyre carnivores, typically their diet is 65% fish, 30% crustraceans and 5% seabirds, teenagers tend to eat more seabirds because its more elusive and exciting to hunt

speaking of, typically the selkies that encounter humans are teenagers and young adults trying to be brave and reckless, its very unlikely to encounter a young child or a grown adult but it is more likely to meet a elderly selkie, as they have enough experience to know its unlikely for them to be taken away

selkies have large communities, usually 3 families together but more can be found, it makes it easier for everyone to stick together

helmine is my newest lil original story as in i made it DAYS ago

its what i mentioned wanting to explore with selkies as a metaphor for abuse and exploitation

helmine is a selkie whos been separated from ais seal skin ever since ai was 12 and now 11 years later ais determined to get it back, sick of being given no choice and being forced to live as a human

its at its core a way for me to deal with some complicated feelings and things BUT its also me having a great time exploring selkie things and im having a lot of fun

rn theres only 5 named characters cause idk how many im gonna end up with

helmine halloran - [ai/ais] the selkie mentioned, usually a very shy and quiet person whos never fit in right and never drawn attention to aiself but thats about to change Drastically

siobhan ingham - [se/hir] a human who met helmine when they were both 17, se has a major crush on helmine and has confessed but helmine said ai wasnt ready for a relationship like that, the feelings still remain theyre just friends though

hazel cheshire - [she/they] helmines oldest friend having met ai when ai was put into a school for the first time around the age of 14, she was originally made to go show the new kid around but they both got along well

ava mcnabb - [e/em] originally siobhans childhood friend who is now a friend of helmines too, e was the main matchmaker and was originally disappointed when things didnt work out, now e is happy that was the case

robin macalastair - [no pronouns] robin met helmine when robin was 16 and ai was 15, robins also the oldest the group and the least on board with all of this, robin used to have a brief at first sight crush on helmine but that went away within a few weeks of knowing ai

does helmine have memory loss because ai spent so long as a human or is there a different reason

not memory loss!! just repressing the traumatic experience of being taken effecting ais memory in general

and ofc ai used to mention being a selkie when ai was 14 and first taken into social services which was dismissed as a coping mechanism

ofc then ai remembered things when ais 23 which led to the big inciting incident, even then ais memories of before ai was taken and events of it happening are blurry, but its clear what really happened
