There is something liberating about Bach...
J.S. Bach: The Art of Fugue, BWV 1080 - No. 18 Fuga a 4 Soggetti (unfini...
I have been listening to the incredible genius of Johann Sebastian Bach this morning, thanks to his seminal work, The Art of the Fugue. Several themes made me marvel again, even though I have heard this work numerous times. Right now, listening to his masterful fugue on his own name, BACH (H is B natural in German musical notation). This piece is played by Helmut Walcha, whose method of memorising each line before combining them together inspired the organist George Richie, and I think is key to the fluidity and clarity of his performance. All the more incredible, given that Walcha was blind. A brilliant musician is a brilliant musician!
One of the most underrated composers in Western music history, Johann Pachelbel, and his marvellous Chaconne in F Minor, played here by Helmut Walcha.
