Who does Milsiril really like?

Oh gee it's hard to put my abstract vague thoughts into words, and this is embarrassing but I'll do my best for you anon

I mentioned before that I like to think about them both as friends and as lovers with no particular preference, that's because I like to imagine they have a certain kind of closeness that at first glance you can't tell? Maybe like an old married couple yeah, where they're been together so long the closeness is only natural.

I also like to think at first Milsiril didn't really want to get closer to him (as she doesn't seem to want to get close with any elves) but as she "couldn't leave him alone" she warmed up to him more than she expected. I like to imagine Helki also tries to take care of Milsiril, like he's her extroverted friend? Maybe it's less hard to talk to other elves with him around, I don't imagine there's much he can do since he's an (ex) prisoner but it's the moral support that counts 😔 Like I don't think he speaks for her or can really do much but having him around while in the canaries probably made things less hard for her considering we always see her glued to his side when he's there in the flashbacks.

I also think spending time with Milsiril made Helki more interested in short lived humans, like the interest he shows Rin compared to the other elves who lost interest pretty fast, considering how it went I also think he's not good with them tho lmao, he's trying

That all being said is confusing to me what's their situation in canon 🤔 to me it doesn't seem like they live together? And more like Helki comes and goes? (Like in the Rin extra and other times where is just Milsiril and Kabru) but sometimes it also seems like they spend a lot of time together (like in the Mithrun recovery comic and in some parts where Kabru talks about his training)

But tbh Kabru's siblings also don't show up in the flashbacks, he might have been living with them and be omitted for brevity, Milsiril lives 'deep in the mountains' so visiting her probably isn't easy but I still like to imagine he comes and goes*, and that they're still in a point of their relationship that is undefined and that maybe they'll be together for real in the future 😳

*My headcanon is that he still does canary work when he's not with Milsiril which is kinda disproven by the fact he's labeled as "ex-canary" along with Milsiril in the AB but then why was he there when Rin got captured? 🧐
