Broken dick man post surgery. He’s woken up now and is doing all right. He was about to shed prior to all this so his skin has gotten a bit fussed with the restraining. Hemipene amputation is a rather simple operation, and I think it went well.

How do lizards and snakes decide/control which hemipene erects? The way I've read about it in the past almost sounds like they conciously control it, but that sounds unlikely to me. Can they just tell which one is going to erect so they just start mating on that side? Is it just the more convenient one depending on how the two mating lizards/snakes are positioned?
