- The origins of H.R. Pufnstuf -
To honor both Sid and Marty Krofft's work especially after Sid Krofft's passing I wanted to talk about their stage show at HemisFair 68 that ended up giving birth to their most iconic TV Show H.R. Pufnstuf
Their show Kaleidoscope was about a Hero who is changed into a monster by a terrible witch and the only way the monster can be changed back is to be kissed by someone. For thousands of years he can get no help until he meets a famous young girl, and the two travel thousands of feet through space searching for the wicked witch who might help. The dragon Character Luther is the early version of the beloved mayor H.R. Pufnstuf and despite how different he looked here you can see how similar he still look to the mayor we are all familiar with. The world seen in Kaleidoscope is also a primitive look at what eventually became living island even down to a evil Witch being the main villain.
In the last three photos you can see Jack Wild , Sid Krofft and Marty Krofft with the original Luther costume and various other props during the early pre production stages of the Pufnstuf TV Show.
