Just took this beautiful picture of a hemispingus. I'm really happy with how it turned out, and I'm glad I captured so much detail! It's honestly amazing how life works sometimes! I got this for my husband and he loves it!
April 3, 2020 - Rufous-browed Hemispingus (Poospiza rufosuperciliaris)
Found on the eastern slope of the Andes in Peru, these birds in the tanager family live in the undergrowth of mountain forests. They feed on arthropods and berries, foraging in pairs in the undergrowth and on the ground and sometimes joining mixed-species flocks. Little is known about their breeding behavior. They were previously classified as Vulnerable by the IUCN, but are now considered a species of Least Concern, though they are threatened by habitat loss and degradation in their small range.
