Their blood equivalent, hemolymph, forms a viscoelastic fluid that covers wounds.

Definitely not for fanfic reasons, but does anyone know what colour wasp "blood" (hemolymph) is? Google is not giving me a straight answer.

Bug Class fun facts 1#
Today in bug class I learned that insects do have hemoglobin in their bodies, but not in their blood (aka hemolymph). Bug blood doesn't do what ours does - which is to enervate the muscles and tissues of the body - the bug's tracheal system is responsible for that. Bug blood carries proteins, sugars and all that good stuff, but not oxygen. Hemoglobin where present in a bug is concentrated in cells connected to the tracheal system: here, the hemoglobin stores rather than transports oxygen.
Another of my favorite little details in Homestuck is that the Serkets have blue blood of a shade similar to a spider's hemolymph.
