October 18, 2020 | The Treasure 1, or El-Kanz: El-Haqiqah wa el-Khayal 1, (2017)

So, I did end up watching El-Kanz: El-Haqiqah wa el-Khayal 1 on Netflix after discovering Mohamed Ramadan. According to Netflix’s brief description of the film (see screenshot), “a quest for lost treasure frames an epic historical drama of Egypt in three epochs: the time of the pharaohs, the Ottoman Empire and the modern era.”

I liked the film, especially how in the scenes based in the ancient times (specifically, Hatshepsut’s time), the temples are in colour. I am still amazed about the colour to be had in ancient artefacts/temples. Like, I will never get over the colour I saw in some of the tombs in the Valley of the Kings. It was absolutely incredible. I mean, when I think of Egypt, I think sand-coloured everything. And most of the ancient structures are sand-coloured (see the pyramids, for example), but then when I realized that these ancient people really, really did use (vibrant) colour, I was... astounded! And they painted EVERYTHING. Okay, maybe not everything, but the ceiling would be blue, like the sky, and with yellow stars. And each of the hieroglyphs were also painted. Oh my!

Anyways, colour aside, I’m very curious to see what happens next in this “epic historical drama of Egypt.” I wish the second movie was up on Netflix so that I can watch it right away.
