Indications that your henna paste may be ready are the following: *paper towel changed to an orange color. *top of henna paste is a darker color than the bottom, bottom is greener. *if using a glass bowl, the separation of color will be visible. These are good indicators, but the only sure fire way to know that your paste is ready is the 5 minute spot check. If your stain appears light after having rested for 24 hours in room temp using lemon juice, your paste needs to rest longer. Some henna powders take as long as 36 hours to dye release, depending on the temperature and ingredients. There is a lot of science involved in creating the perfect henna paste.
