Hendery + “Why be sexy when you can be spooky?” + “YOU DIDN’T TELL ME THE KNIFE WAS REAL!”
Warning: mentions of fake blood and real blood, not graphic
The night of Ten’s famous “Spooky Halloween Extravaganza” party has finally come. You and your friends look forward to it every year, all because it’s one of the best costume parties that you could be a part of on Halloween. This year, you decided to go as a nurse risen from the dead- going all out with the costumes as is expected of all party-goers.
You put the last finishing touches on your make-up and costume, walking out of the bathroom and into the kitchen where your friends, Xiaojun and Lucas, are waiting.
“Woah…” Lucas exclaims as he looks you up and down. “Wait… Aren’t nurses usually sexy?” Lucas asks and Xiaojun rolls his eyes. You look down at your costume: a set of baggy, blue scrubs that have been torn apart in some places with fake blood stained on the rest of the fabric. It’s definitely not your typical sexy nurse costume.
“Why be sexy when you can be spooky?” You shrug. “So, let’s go?” You suggest, and the three of you pile into your car and make your way to Ten’s place. It’s an apartment, and although it’s on the nice side of town, it’s still too small to fit the hundred people Ten invited for his party. You and your friends walk in, looking mismatched as Lucas wears a glow-in-the-dark skeleton suit with face painting to match and Xiaojun wears a pirate costume with an actual-size fake parrot perched on his shoulder.
“You guys made it!” Ten shrieks out when the three of you make your presence known. He’s wearing a white toga with a small bow in one hand and arrows sticking out of a bag that’s slung over his back; the ends of the arrows contain shiny, red hearts.
“You’re… cupid?” You ask and Ten nods excitedly.
“And you’re a zombie nurse?” He asks as he looks you up and down, holding you an arms length away.
“Oh, no. I’m a nurse risen from the dead.” You explain, and Ten’s eyebrows raise at your answer.
“Oh, my god. There’s someone you have to meet.” After saying hello to Lucas and Xiaojun, who have already found their place in the chaos that is Ten’s Extravaganza, he leads you to the kitchen. As soon as you walk in, you know who Ten is going to introduce you to. A guy in a doctor’s uniform stands with his back to you, but you can tell from the rips and fake blood stains on his costume, you accidentally dressed up in a couple’s costume.
“Y/N, this is Hendery. He’s a doctor risen from the dead.” Ten wiggles his eyebrows at you, making your face almost drop into your hands in embarrassment. “Hendery, this is my friend Y/N.” Before you can say anything, Ten is pulled away and you’re left alone with Hendery. You quickly give him a once-over, admiring how put together his costume is and how his curly hair falls over his forehead- his wide smile still strong despite the awkward meeting. He even looks cute with fake blood stained over his cheeks.
“So…” You trail off, trying to break the ice, “Why does a doctor that’s risen from the dead have a knife?” You ask, and both of you glance down at Hendery’s hands, one carrying his drink and one carrying a small knife.
“Oh, it’s a scalpel. I guess I’m a surgeon.” He laughs awkwardly.
“Oh, cool. Can I see?” You’re not sure what propels you to grab the top of the knife (maybe your nerves or your effort in trying to look cool in front of a cute guy) but before Hendery can protest, you pull the knife out of his grasp. A gasp leaves your lips as you quickly drop it to the ground, looking at the real blood that is drawn from your hand.
“Oh, my god!” You yelp out. “Why would you bring a real knife to a party?”
“Why would you grab the top of a knife?” Hendery yelps back.
“YOU DIDN’T TELL ME THE KNIFE WAS REAL!”
“You didn’t let me!” Hendery screams back as you both stare at your bleeding hand, dumbfounded. Before you know what’s going on, Hendery sets down his drink and grabs your wrist, pulling you to the sink in the kitchen while the other party-goers move to let you through. Warm water washes over your hand as Hendery retrieves a towel that’s laying on the counter and pushes it over the cut.
“You’re lucky I’m a doctor.” Hendery jokes in a fake serious voice, and you can’t help but laugh with him as his warm hands hold yours under the running water.
“Aw,” You both turn to look behind you at the sound of Ten’s voice coming from the kitchen entryway. “I leave you kids alone for 5 minutes and you’re all over each other. I really am cupid.”
