May 1 was the day I always celebrated my sweet hound’s birthday. I’ll never know when he was born, as I found him when he was already a young adult digging through trash in a ditch. I miss my Henry. He was the friendliest boy.

My sweet old Henry Hound has gone on to the great beyond, as of August 27. He happily ate corn dogs and treats that day, but he was tired and ready to say goodbye after over 15 years with me and over 16 years on this earth.
Even though I’m not a believer in any religious faith, I still find myself wanting to believe there is a wonderful existence beyond this one, where all my past dogs have perfect peace and no cancer and their bones don’t ache even a little, and maybe there’s an all-you-can-eat steak and baked potato bar with all the fixings.
Henry Hound’s hair color has changed from bright auburn to silver in his fifteenish years, but his handsomeness remains unchanged.
My sweet old hound is about to go to the vet for the final time. But first: a bowl of chopped up corn dogs and wet food.
He ate every bite.
The corn dog slices briefly became stuck to the bowl but he got them.
