WEEK ONE: CHARACTERS 01/09: Ray Manchester
Dear Ray Manchester,
You began with a lot of potential and won your way into our hearts and minds with your unorthodox and inappropriate hiring methods that had somewhat of a childish gullibility and made us question your authority, but think you deserved a chance.
Then, you took that chance, got progressively worse as an employer, a friend, an adult, and a human being, Sir. That stuff where you KEEP ON fawning over a boy who trusts you’s mother is weird and creepy. Pushing children to do stuff that you just don’t want to, especially when it’s in your job description and you’re the adult - oppressive and abusive. AND IF YOU WOULD HAVE EATEN THAT LAST PIECE OF CAKE FROM HENRY ON HIS BIRTHDAY, I SWEAR TO GOD, BOY...
Listen... Because, I have no faith that you will ever be written well again, and even if they tried to turn you around, you have done things that are so far overboard that honestly, the only thing that might win you redemption is actually dying for a child. So, no, no redemption for you. But, I wish that you had been used to break the cycle of exploitation that was inflicted upon you when your irresponsible science father turned you into a tool. I wish that you had seen this child and thought, “I could teach him to be a hero while also allotting him the room to be a kid right now - and he can turn out to be a great hero, one better than myself.” I wish that when Charlotte and Henry tried to be there for you and have you have a Day of Fum that could have been the start of some healing and beautiful friendship dynamics.
You ‘round here overworking this sidekick, berating the smartest most functional member of your team, openly physically and mentally abusing the one adult there, who ALSO you could do nothing without, being mean and surly to a boy that doesn’t get much more kindness when he gets home. You just... To call you a hero is the biggest joke OF the show.
So, you better be glad that you’re shallow and DGAF about any other living person, because the one you care about is who you gon’ die with, alone and dusty. Every last one of them kids and that scientist ought to bury you alive and act like they never heard of you. You raggedy bitch.
All Shade, Me.
