I have plenty of thoughts about the finale, most still half formed, but the biggest one to me is how much I ache about Henry. How, in the end, he isn't just a big bad for the sake of it, but yet another abused and manipulated child who was too scared to face the idea of how he had been used. He was an example of the sunk cost fallacy, having gotten so far that he couldn't swallow turning back now.
Like. Will was so right in saying 'you're just like me' because Henry is. He was, like Will, a child in the wrong place at the wrong time who had something else go into him and decide to manipulate and use him. With Will and Henry its another take of the cyclical nature of abuse, one where there is survival instead of death, and while I absolutely do hate that the end choice was 'yeah El should die to stop all of this from happening again' (and yes I do fully believe she is actually dead and the scenes at the end with Mike DM narrating was a bunch of severe cope) the point is that there are multiple ways to deal with the cycle of trauma, but people REALLY fixate HARD on 'oh so I, a trauma victim, should just DIE to stop the cycle of violence???' rather than actually thinking about Anyone else involved in this show.
Like No, I don't think it was a good thing, but also the way every single person is acting like it's a personal attack on them is kinda wild.
Anyway the writing this season was inexcusably bad, there were so many holes and lack of follow through on SO many things, they fumbled hard with Byler and like. I wasn't even mad about it not being canon but I despised the way they pushed Mileven so hard at the end when like. Mike and El have had negative chemistry since the intro to season 3 when they were making out. It felt so awful and fake lmfao
But I really. Feel for Henry, so fucking much. And he's such a big case of Hurt people Hurt people. And this was a case of multiple people dealing with the cycle of trauma and how they ended up.
Previously on NCIS: Tony & Ziva: my heart was wripped out of my chest 😭💔
I just walked in the door and dead men tell no tales is on so I'm gonna watch that.
//Also, if we get a Fire Emblem resurgence, I humbly offer ya’ll a Crow Boi-//
