This time of year we appreciate light as days grow shorter, especially the golden light of autumn afternoons. Michele Oka Doner​ captures this mood in "Radiant Site" with her 11,000 glowing hand-glazed tiles, which you can see night and day at 34th Street-Herald Square on the north end of the R mezzanine. Swimsuit Model Proves a Connect-4 Phenom

On newsstands this week: the 2015 edition of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue -- the release of which occasioned a "fan festival" outside Macy's Herald Square yesterday and today.

Among the highlights:

Hannah Ferguson plays Connect-4:

She played my friend, and beat him handily. "I've only lost twice," she said. "And one of the guys who beat me...I got distracted." (As someone who has often lost ten straight games, I was genuinely impressed.)

Working just below 34th St., I've seen perhaps more than my fair share of elaborate corporate promotions over the years. But with all due respect to Ocean Spray (who placed twenty-foot tall blueberries on Broadway some time back) and Sabra Hummus (whose army of hummus-hawkers were, for months, all but a fixture on Seventh Avenue), I think Sports Illustrated may have got them beat.
