Words from Herb Brooks
When I think of good leadership qualities & people (especially public figures) who have given me so much necessary food-for-thought (in terms of being a more effective leader) - I have to recognize Herb Brooks (famed U.S. Olympic Hockey Coach of the Miracle-on-Ice 1980 U.S. Hockey Team; see AWESOME; see YES I BELIEVE IN MIRACLES; see ONE OF THE GREATEST COACHES OF ALL TIME).
This video elaborates on some of the teachings of Herb Brooks, and I’d like to add that I’ve never played hockey (aside from street hockey as a kid just for fun on my own time). Herb Brooks’ words-of-wisdom go well beyond competitive sports - he is one of the few (if not, only) athletic coaches that has given advice that I actually follow & live by (to this very day). I have always been fascinated with Great Leadership (which I believe is the most underrated “SuperPower” if ever a concept were to be legitimate & absolutely true), especially with inspiring leadership. Herb Brooks is someone that I genuinely look up to (rest his soul) and I truly admire his leadership ability, not only as a hockey coach, but as a person. He was more than a hockey coach, he was an inspiration.
So, for anyone who actually has a developing (or genuine) interest in Leadership and what separates mediocre leadership & Awesome leadership - I highly recommend taking a moment to see what has been said from one the most inspiring leaders in American Sports History.
