Helen laughs, lets herself be lifted against Ev, carried out onto the mat and wrapped in a towel like a child. It had annoyed her at first, back when this was all still new, the way Ev liked to fuss over her, do things for her. In her less fine moments they’d argued about it, Helen prickly and Ev a little confused, had simply been performing the services mindlessly, quiet affection and care. He liked to touch her, he liked to take care of her– it came with no doubts about her capabilities. Sometimes it still rankled her, when her mood was sour. But mostly she’d learned it was just Ev, and he liked doing things for her.
