hey horsblr –– any tips and tricks for helping out a buddy-sour / herd-bound horse? I’ve got a 20 year old mare who’s been through a lot of rough shit. she’s only starting to trust me now after buying her in September but she still has a very hard time when she’s unable to see the mares from her herd (sometimes they’re in the stable, sometimes not). She can become dangerous just in the sense that she’ll hurt herself or me when I’m in the stall, just by running into me and not caring.
She lives at a barn with lots of young children so having a horse freak out while they have lessons isn’t exactly safe. I can handle her fine when she gets like this but I’d rather help her get over it than just using band-aid methods. I did some research myself on tips and tricks for helping horses get over it but I couldn’t find anything that I feel my horse would respond to or things I’ve already tried.
any suggestions are appreciated!!!
