Today at Hinesville City Council we announced the partnering of the Coastal Georgia Minority Chamber with the Geechee Kunda. We petitioned the City Council to support us in bringing a Geechee Gullah Welcome Center/Museum to the County Seat (Hinesville) as there is no representation of the Culture currently. Dr. Amir Toure and Mr. Gregory Grant represented the Geechee Kunda/Geechee Gullah and shared its history as it pertains to Hinesville, which was once extensive and prominent but has since disappeared. Our goal is to revive it because it's not just Black History; it's our history and history impacts all of us. The Geechee Kunda Cultural Center is located in Riceboro. It is unique to the County, State, and Nation. It is considered as the epicenter of the world for the Geechee Gullah heritage and culture, and currently, people are coming from all over to learn about us. I use the word "Us" because though my family is from Louisiana and are of the Creole Culture, we are the descendants of the Geechee Gullah and many of you are as well. (Trace your history) Thank you Federal Commissioner/Mayor Pro Tem Griffin Lotson and the Gullah Geechee Cultural Heritage Corridor Commission for your support. #RepresentationMatters #HistoryMatters #CultureMatters #HeritageMatters #GeeCheeKunda #GeecheeGullahMatters #KeepingYouInTheLoop (at Hinesville, Georgia) https://www.instagram.com/p/BvUCE2Rn7qR/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=16bd705qpjw69
