Song of the Day #294
Huggy Bear - "Herjazz" (Taking the Rough with the Smooch, 1993)
"This is happening without your permission", Jo Johnson growls towards the end of "Herjazz", indicating that the "boy girl revolution" isn't going to adhere to the terms of the leftist "male feminist" poseurs. She co-fronted the band along with Chris Rowley - Huggy Bear was a split-gender band and ardently feminist - but made sure they called out all the misogynist "punk" dudes. This was the song Huggy Bear played right before being famously booted off Channel 4 show The Word after they disrupted the hosts' misogynist segment on some American supermodel twins.
On a rage, best intentions. THIS IS THE SOUND OF A REVOLUTION!
Still one of my favourite songs ever.
Still have my "queercore for the queercorps" sticker.
