Hermit eggs are too cute
Scrambled Keggs
Keralis had told him not to let the egg hatch. Under no uncertain terms was he to let that egg crack open under its own power.
“Give it to me if you don’t want it,” Keralis had said ominously, with a small little smile that had Xisuma’s guts pinching uncomfortably.
But the palm-sized Kegg was just so damn cute he couldn’t help himself. He put it on a warm towel and left it on a windowsill- the other Hermit eggs seemed remarkably tolerant to temperature fluctuations, so the Kegg would theoretically be fine.
Xisuma was there when it started to hatch. He couldn’t deny his own curiosity- and hey, a cute little Tiny Keralis running around? How fun! Right?
The first piece of shell detached with a crack, and from inside, a small voice let out a tiny peep.
Just like all the others, then. Xisuma leaned in eagerly, waiting, waiting-
Then a black tendril the width of his finger punched through the wall of the shell, and the soft peeping turned to a ravenous (and very squeaky) shriek.
Bloodcurdling roars, as filtered through a lungful of helium. And as the shell exploded into so many fragments, Xisuma found himself staring down at a fist-sized black blob that pulsed like a heartbeat. Hundreds of tiny, sightless eyes rolled open and started swiveling around the room, most locking onto him. Smelling the air. Tasting it.
“Ah.” Xisuma said, “I’m a bit of a derp, aren’t I?”
I'm really looking forward to Keralis' next episode with all the eggs being put around his base as a surprise. Both Jev and xB really decided to go that extra mile, it shows just how good the friendship between the hermits is
