Super Smash Bros. Ultimate: Challenger Pack 2
Sakurai honestly cooked with this DLC character. Hero having not one, not two, but FOUR DIFFERENT FORMS ON TOP OF THE FACT EACH ONE GOT A DIFFERENT COLOR SCHEME TO MATCH VARIOUS HEROES IN OTHER GAMES IS INSANE. The stage hero gets is from the latest game, Dragon Quest 11, but a really fun rng type of platforms mixed together with traveling around the world. While I wish the soundtracks could be different due to the limitations of a terrible man, at the least they feel familiar and capture the vibe of the series itself.
Even all the spells and specialties feel extra special when it comes to Hero. He has critical hits, a new mechanic that can feel a bit unfair, but true to his games while still remaining balanced enough. His down special is literally several different spells taken from the series, and each provides for some interesting effects ranging from powering yourself up to instant killing your enemy. He gets a magic meter to help mirco manage his fighting while at the same time giving a double edge sword to those a bit to magic happy. Zap being a charge attack and a consistently used Hero spell makes for a super interesting side special. Even his standard special let's him charge up a fire spell to give it that extra Oomph. Like Hero is such a fun character in a novelty way. While I was never able to get better with him in a way that made me feel good; I consistently felt great whenever I could pull off a spell right or hit a critical attack.
While I do feel the Dragon Quest spirits lacked, mainly due to one of them being added later and them mostly being Dragon Quest 11 focused, overall the classic mode made up for it. And like Classic mode is literally just the first Dragon Quest game beat for beat. It's kinda wild just how much they went out for Hero character to the point I don't think they really topped him in a way that matters in any character past him. Perhaps I'm biased due to my love of the series, but I absolutely adore everything this DLC gave us.
