How do you feel about the new 52? I'm a pretty big DC comic nerd but I've only ever read things before that point and I wasn't sure if I should invest in it? Because a few people were telling me it sucks.

I’m like one of the 4 people in the DC Comics fandom who like the New 52.

I think it’s fun and fresh and entertaining. I think people hate on it because it ruined continuity but then try to find social justice reasons to hate on it instead because they don’t want to sound whiny.

Which, I don’t understand. If someone were to tell me “I don’t like the New 52 because I respect continuity,” I’d say that’s a pretty legit reason for not liking it and that we just have different opinions.

And this isn’t to say that the New 52 didn’t do some pretty nasty stuff - because it did. But DC Comics was already doing some pretty nasty stuff before hand and they will continue to do so in the future. On the flip side, the New 52 did some amazing stuff as well, particularly in terms of giving a lot of minority characters their own titles.

Which, you know, got canceled because those same people who were complaining that minority characters were eradicated in the New 52 weren’t buying the titles that had minority characters as the leads. So, that was nice of them (can you tell I’m bitter or no?).

Essentially what I’m saying is that whether or not you’ll like the New 52 really only depends on

A. If you uphold continuity above everything else.

and

B. What titles you choose to read. Which, you know, is kind of the same deal in terms of liking comics outside the New 52, so… ?
