Realistically, Leonard has been on many planetary expeditions that landed him in situations far worse than 'getting lost in a rainforest with a three-foot hedgehog-adjacent humanoid'. That said, this is quickly climbing the ranks to become one of his least favorites all the same: the air is thicker than pea soup and scalding hot to boot, the bugs are relentless in trying to chew up the back of his neck and hands, and both the undergrowth and overgrown are so invasive that he's tripping over his own boots every other step and can hardly see the sky.
He's not sure if that latter part is why the Enterprise won't pick up any of his communications or not. With his lousy luck, that's an entirely separate, unrelated problem that also somehow hasn't been resolved in the three, four hours he's been stuck here with this kid.
"How exactly are you so sure we're headed for higher ground? Best I can tell we're going in one giant circle," he waves a hand in a broad shape just to illustrate this, pushing up his sleeves ( mosquitos be damned, or whatever this planet's equivalent to mosquitos is called ) and sluggishly shaking his foot free of a vine that snags it to the forest floor. "And for god's sake, slow down, would you? Some of us are getting on in years, here!"
