“So.... I’m sensing you’re a little upset.” Maybe even more so, which was the cause for the nervous smile tugging at Chief’s lips, silently wondering why Iron had to disappear now of all times. Okay, sure she’d been waiting for the inevitable visit but not.... tonight. Only a day after getting back from a particularly difficult dispatch, her I’m fine act was just that. An act, especially as it took a lot out of her to just get on her feet to greet superior.
Somehow Langley’s lecture only poured more salt into metaphorical (and literal) wounds, causing her to take a step back before the back of her legs collided with hospital bed and forced her to sit back on mattress, further increasing the difference in their heights and how small the woman made her feel when she got in these... moods. It didn’t help that everything she said was something that already ran its course through her mind when she was first brought in, bloody and disheveled. She could only imagine how she looked now, having barely slept the night before despite the heaps of pain meds she’d been on.
She did know better than to do something so damned foolish, so reckless but in the moment... It had seemed like the right call. Whether her body got busted up or not hadn’t mattered to her as much as getting what they needed. Hindsight was always a bitch.
“I get you’re point, believe me... I was already chewed out by both Hella and Iron yesterday.” She pointedly excluded Hecate, who’d been as quiet as ever. Worryingly, so. “I’m surprised you weren’t here earlier; I was quite the mess you would’ve liked it-” A hiss expelling from lips suddenly cut her off, Langley’s sudden grip around cast gave her a little jolt, more from the shock than actual pain. “I.... A broken arm is.... expected to heal around.... more than one week, yes.” And that wasn’t counting her bruised ribs, but at least she had the mind to look guilty about it.
