Vacation-Staycation Eternal Blu-ray Catch-up! Next I went onto a handful of Arrow Video releases of horror/thriller films, but because there are several or more, I decided to do them a couple at at time, split up by decade for convenience. 🎞️ Chapter 9: Blood Feast (+ Scum of the Earth) Chapter 10: 2000 Maniacs (+ Moonshine Mountain) 🎬 So the 1960s ones are all Herschell Gordon Lewis films. I would like to point out that these are not good films, but (some) are enjoyable, definitely not because of their quality, though often in part *because* of how low quality they are. He was known as the godfather of gore, and fittingly, as he created the first splatter movie, 1963's Blood Feast. Included with that was the nearly unwatchable Scum of the Earth (also '63), which was considered the first "roughie" film. It is bad (& not gory). The other I watched was his next splatter film, 1964's 2000 Maniacs. There is a noticeable uptick in gore effects quality, and a nominal uptick in acting. It is itself somewhat of a progenitor of the so-called "hicksploitation" horror film (Texas Chainsaw Massacre being the most famous example).
