⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀The   shadow   of   her   former   self   gestured   toward   the   dead   planet   they   had   ruled.   There   appeared   to   be   life,   but   each   person   was   nothing   more   than   an   echo   from   the   past.   All   around   them   stood   nothing   but   practical   ruins.   When   he   spoke   of   loss,   did   he   not   realize   that   in   his   absence,   he   had   already   forfeited   her?   Long,   flaxen   threads   swayed   in   the   breeze   as   they   stood   together,   overlooking   what   was   once   their   beloved   land.   Her   mind   was   hazy,   fractured,   but   he   seemed   to   recall   all   too   well   the   damage   that   was   caused.   One   thing   remained   in   her   heart   throughout   that   lengthy   sleep   she   awoke   from.   A   crestfallen   expression   graced   the   royal's   features.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Xavier was usually pretty easygoing, so hanging out with him was pretty lax most of the time, but those eyes he gave her whenever he failed at the claw machine were hilarious. He looked so heartbroken when the plushies fell off the claw. The more ironic part was that she asked him to get a plushy for her, but he was the one with his arms full of the ones she ended up snagging for him during her turn. Sometimes she wondered if everyone knew her secret talent for that game. She brushed a few wavy strands of honey-brown from her face, revealing a slightly exasperated look. At least he didn’t have a terrible time watching her show him up.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Laughter bubbled from her throat as she mentally counted the prizes. “ Oh , good . I was worried you’d get bored watching me . ” As they walked home together, Elizabeth pondered what next time would look like. Would he get better and show her his progress, or would she be teaching him again? He wasn’t bad at the game by any means; he just had difficulty staying focused sometimes, and that contraption could be extremely unfair. It took her a while to learn ways around all its tricks.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀With a playful nudge, she smirked. “ All right . We can do this again , but on one condition . ” Gesturing toward the stuffed animals, she swiveled her head. “ Since we’re neighbors ── and I’m short on space , you keep these ones , and I get visitation rights . Deal ? ” Was it another excuse to come bother her friend who lived upstairs when she was bored? Perhaps, but she was determined to keep up the bit, that this was an arrangement that allowed them to both enjoy the catches of the day.
