During his recent stay at Ace Hotel, NYC-based artist Chuck Hettinger drew Andrew At The Ace, a sleeping male nude portrayed in red and light blue acrylics on blue paper.
Chuck Hettinger (b. 1953), a New York state native (Buffalo/Niagara Falls), has lived and worked in New York City since 1979. His acclaimed and published decorative painting work draws inspiration from his childhood pop art influences. Since 2003 he has focused on the male nude, drawing from life and capturing the moment in quickly rendered drawings using large format colored paper and acrylic paint markers. He has recently exhibited at Leslie-Lohman Museum of Gay and Lesbian Art, Provincetown Art Association and Museum and Atlantic Gallery.
This December, Ace AIR is curated by Gay Men’s Health Crisis, the world’s first nonprofit provider of HIV/AIDS care, prevention, and advocacy. Guided by the National HIV/AIDS Strategy and best practices refined through our thirty-five years of service, GMHC serves over 12,600 people each year and provides critical HIV testing, supportive housing, financial, mental health, legal, nutrition, and workforce development services. In addition to the provision of direct services, they work to address structural drivers of the AIDS epidemic through public policy advocacy. The organization also invests in building agency capacity, developing staff, and securing their financial future in the changing landscape of HIV, healthcare, and government funding.
