THIS SHOULD TEACH HIM, REALLY. leaving alhaitham to his own devices when he mentioned leaving the house to go out for something, well... he hadn't thought he would bring back furniture, of all things, though he should have known all the same. ❝ Alhaitham! ❞ the raise in his voice isn't one of anger but more so of judgement aimed directly at the piece itself and his friend's particular taste in general.
❝ Where did you even manage to find this? ❞ he'd like to think it was at least somewhere better than a thrift store, but knowing the trouble that this guy liked to cause, he wouldn't be surprised to hear that was the exact place of origin. ❝ And don't tell me you forgot what I told you back at home in Sumeru about taking me out whenever you go shopping for furniture. We're not keeping this, I hope you know. ❞

WHY DID SHE AGREE TO THIS AGAIN? having let out a certain annoyance, it was at the behest of some strange bribe. only now all she does is stand here amidst a lavish ball in an outfit she feels, well... it was different from the ones she would usually paint. fingers pluck a little at the draping chains that accentuate her, standing to the wayside of the open gardens door, as if she were some estranged wallflower that had gotten in. at least until eyes took note of a familiar figure not far off, one she hadn't thought would be likely to show up.
❝ Crap... ❞ the word is muttered beneath her breath, already feeling a wash of heat find its way to her cheeks ever so slightly. crap crap crap. how was she even going to deal with this after that woman put some kind of unbearable curse on her? maybe sneaking off was better, taking a glance to the the side, then one foot toward the gardens, before the feeling of eyes settle upon her like a burning sun. one glance over is all it takes for her to know it's him who spotted her, meaning there was no escape now that both eyes had locked momentarily, her almost as if she were a deer in headlights.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ugh. she had words for that woman again.
❝ Alhaitham. I didn't think you'd be here. ❞ cheeks puff out slightly as she focuses on some of the accessories again, as if it were some way to hide anything too noticeable. smooth, dusk, real smooth.

@hetuvidya!
it wasn't really bad, but it had been one of those days where it was hard to stay still, because he'd still manage to get hot. somehow. he'd sipped lots of water, and so much that his tummy was feeling a bit weird. hurt didn't feel like the right word, but it wasn't comfy. so he'd gone for a walk to work it off (he thought it would... or hoped).
the sight of a human perfectly still caught him by surprise while wandering through the ward, not far from the big library. because of all the trees, there was plenty of shade but... he looked completely fine. didn't he hear someone say that black made you even hotter in the heat?
taking advantage of the distraction, he tottered over, noticing a book resting in the man's hand. ϟ did you find that in the library? i heard there's a lady who gets really scary if you try to take books from it without being allowed. does she really? i'm too nervous to try and find out. ϟ
HOW LONG HAS HE BEEN READING? he had noticed the man at least an hour or so ago, unmoved from his spot, as if some perfectly crafted statue in dedication to literature itself. not only that, but the vision which he wears, too, was something to consider. dedication as this was an admirable feat, especially when a glance of the topic itself grants insight of its difficulty, one that kaeya, himself, would likely need a few reads to fully grasp despite all his intellect. still, to sink all your time into words upon a page without relent... ❝ You've been at that for some time, you know. ❞ rather than leave things well enough, he instead choose the more social route, moving to lean against the occupied table.
❝ Why not take a break for a small while? It couldn't hurt to have a drink or two at a nearby tavern to refresh yourself, ❞ he continues, motioning his head as if in invitation. ❝ Come on. It'll be my treat. ❞

With the speed of a little animal the child grabs Alhaithams arm and begins to climb, making her way up to his head where she grabs the top of his head and finally settles on his shoulders.
" Uwahhh.... I'm so sorry. "
" Look Kaya can you not climb on strangers? You still got soup left! Come to eat... It's not good to leave food."
To let her opinion be known the kid shows Eiden tongue.
❝ Here. Take it. ❞ dusk speaks firmly, the stubbornness in her voice an unspoken means that she would not simply take no for an answer, especially with the scroll held out until he takes it from her. ❝ The scroll will only work within the Sky-Strewn Isles. At least until I regain more of myself, ❞ she explains, figuring that was enough for him to understand what exactly it is she hands over to him right now, at least in some capacity. as for why, well... if he really wanted to know, he would just have to ask directly.

MAYBE COMING HERE WAS A MISTAKE. that's what she would like to think, at least, despite the only reason her arriving was out of pure curiosity, something that might spark some sense of inspiration. truthfully, dusk liked people, as much as she may recluse from society, which is why she had allowed herself some small effort in trying. were it only so simple, she thinks, instead now finding herself faced with some who can't take a refusal to dance with any grace.
which meant that for the last several minutes, she'd been thinking of a way to get rid of them once and for all when her gaze falls on someone at one of the refreshment tables. it was a man she'd met prior to all this, even if the circumstances weren't the best. was it fortunate that his face was the only familiar one she sees here? in some sense, she can believe so. to start, he likely wouldn't have interest in shoving her onto a dance floor or some other weird reason they could try and pull from thin air. in fact, he probably wouldn't be interested in her at all... meaning he was more than the best candidate, in this case. so, she makes her way over, sidling up beside him without hesitation to make it seem all the more natural for those watching as she crosses her arms.
❝ You don't have to actually talk to me if you don't want to. ❞ would that even be better for them, considering their last run in? somehow, she couldn't really say. ❝ Just act like we came here together for a little while or something of that ilk. ❞
