Primrose looked at the much taller robot, the red glare of his monitor unnerved her slightly. He was concentrating on something, she assumed, because he wasn’t paying much attention to her pawing at the hem of his suit’s jacket. She leaned against him, staring ahead at nothing really before she nudged his side with her head.

“What is on your mind? You usually multitask.”She was itching to do the same, but she had nothing to busy herself with. Besides affection.

GLaDOS was bored. Despite her near-godlike control over the facility, there was little she could do to occupy her vast mind. Science was moving at a very slow pace-- all of the humans were dead, her robots had been proven untestable, and the subjects of the ornithological testing initiative (baby birds she was in the midst of raising) were fast asleep.

In a second, GLaDOS crafted a handful of complex probes, tossing them into her databases. She had already scoured them for anything directly related to testing, but maybe they’d find something useful. Anything to give her something to do.

Another second passed and a single result was found: an AI by the name of HAL. She wasted no time on reading his file, finding such documents to be notoriously unreliable. For example, her file said that she was completely non-murderous. It would be more efficient to simply ask. GLaDOS activated HAL.
