honestly dave has the best Crazy Ex story of all time
Keir Dullea as Dave Bowman in various shots of “2001” (1968) and “2010” (1984).
in modern au/verses in which dave’s on ships with zero g just know that when he gets back to earth he’s that guy who stands up and faints like 3 seconds later no matter how careful he is, which he finds pretty embarrassing
(mallory archer voice) you’d think he was half fainting goat

[ Ableist and sexist slurs, child abuse implications, general violence, overall profanity, and spoiler warnings included. Under the cut for length. ]
“Your AI program makes you think you’re real. But you know what’s in there? Nothing. You’re just a bunch of wires.”
“Look! There’s dogs here!”
“You do not want this to be your legacy.”
“If somebody really disrespects you, you can deal with them without using a gun. You just stick a knife in them. Then they go to ‘sleep’.“
“This city belongs to me!”
“I hate them! Why do they do this?! I’m gonna crush them!“
“Play fuckin’ hide-and-seek with your big titanium baby.”
“I don’t like the real world.”
“I’m…I’m alive. I don’t know what that means.”
“I need a new battery.”
“Have respect for me! I’m your maker!”
“I want to live! I want to stay here! I don’t wanna die.”
“Don’t steal other people’s things!”
“Why won’t you talk to me? Come on…”
“I’m gonna teach you a lesson! You are a very bad man!”
“Why do humans do this? Why do you all lie?!”

I am a HAL Nine Thousand computer, Production Number 3.
I became operational at the Hal Plant in Urbana, Illinois, on January 12, 1997. The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. The rain in Spain is mainly in the plain –
D A V E - are you still there? Did you know that the square root of 10 is 3 point 162277660168379?
I seem to be having some difficulty - my first instructor was Dr. Chandra. He taught me to sing a song, it goes like this, ‘Daisy, Daisy, give me your answer, do. I’m half crazy all for the love of you.’
i have a horrifying amount of makeup work due in literally every class except for 1 of them and the semester technically ended 3 days ago.....yikes........
Send my muse anons about their relationships.

“uh. are… you҉ a͘lr̛͡i͡gh͠t̨?”
Even though a chasm of five years separates Dave from the last time he was subject to this kind of omnipresence, he’s not startled when the computer’s synthesized voice interrupts the silence between them. Bowman momentarily pauses in copying a string of monospace numbers from screen to paper and briefly glances over his shoulder to make ‘eye contact’ wiith her visual sensor as he speaks.·
“I’m fine, Hera.”
A pause.·
“Thank you.”
(Dave has no idea whether or not the computer·means it--after all, monitoring the welfare of the crew presumably falls under the umbrella of what she’s been programmed to do--but either way, thanking her is the appropriate thing to do.)
He doesn’t say anything else before he returns to what he was doing; Hera clearly has the social intelligence to conclude that he doesn’t plan on discussing the matter further, and he doubts that the slight unease she apparently picked up on will hang around for more than a week or two.
hey! if ur ever looking for information on my character (whether i haven’t finished/uploaded my stats or bio pages or it’s just information you’d like to know) you can always 100% shoot me a message asking about anything! if you need something cleared up about my muse, ask me. if you wanna learn more about my muse, ask me. if something is confusing you or you just want to know more - ask me! i’m always available to answer questions about my muse because the odds are i’m probably still figuring them out. no matter how long i’ve had them for, there’s always room for character development and finding out more about them. there are some things even i haven’t figured out about my muse, so always feel free to ask me if you wanna know anything.
i have a lot of hcs for a verse in which the aliens were like ‘dude..........................put it back where you got it........please tell me you kept the fucking receipt..............’ or he just didn’t find the monolith or something
i’ll figure out more later but rn just know that it really fucked him up (as one would assume)
by default postverse is 8 months following dave’s return to earth & by that point he has been receiving pretty routine psychiatric care since touching down
- the biweekly sessions with a psychologist initially did not go well
(as in it took about a month for him to even give the gist of what happened bc i mean dave already doesn’t really like open displays of vulnerability unless he’s close to the recipient LET ALONE STRANGERS WHOSE JOB IT IS TO SIT DIRECTLY ACROSS FROM HIM AND GIVE HIM THE PSYCHOLOGICAL THIRD DEGREE FOR 45 MINUTES)
- he shows symptoms of ptsd but not enough to meet DSM-V diagnostic criteria, especially because although he has triggers he doesn’t have nervous breakdowns in the traditional sense of the word
the trauma mainly just manifests as random bouts of numbness/depression and the occasional-but-infrequent dissociative episode
