MHexyl Did The Thing! (A #DVPit Update)
I wasn’t actually planning on doing an update just yet but something just happened that made me super emotional:
The number of requests I’ve gotten from agents/editors at #DVPit for my current project has now surpassed the number of rejections I got on my first novel when I queried in 2017.
I just...I remember the moment two years ago (2 years!!) when I finally sat down and told myself that my writing wasn’t quite up to par and it was time to stop querying and just write another book. And I did. And now there are agents I would frankly die to work with and editors at houses I’ve only ever dreamed of being published by who want to see my work.
So if you’re struggling right now with hating your writing or feeling like this road is taking you nowhere, KEEP GOING. Keep writing! I was 16 when I said I wanted to be published by 21. 22 when my first book died quietly in the query trenches. And now I’m 24 (as of 2 days ago!) and understand that there is no timeline to follow, no goals list to check off by X age. There’s just your journey.
At the end of the day, a pitch contest is just an opportunity and a way to connect. At this point, it could still go nowhere. It could go nowhere. But by God, right now, it feels like I’ve gotten somewhere.
