ikr. also why to US tv shows still have the comedy indian stereotype character who talks about their KOOKY gods like even on kids shows. start being racist towards those from the indian subcontinent because no longer broadly acceptable to white audiences to be racist towards east asian characters? idk. saw something on the disney channel that really pissed me off the other day.

really?!?! idk i dont watch much american tv, or much tv at all really, but wow i suppose america doesnt have the same history of racism towards indians/pakistanis/bangledeshis/sri lankans that the uk has with the british raj and immigration and the national front and all that so for some reason i was under the impression there arent rly any stereotypes in the us abt south asians, or at least not anything comparable to the ones we have in britain, bc all the american ‘Asian’ stereotypes ive seen on the internet are specific to east asians.... just goes 2 show, never underestimate white ppl’s capacity to cram racism into everything they make lmao :/

i like tilda swinton and i'm sad it looks shit but also it serves them right

yeah this movie aside, i did like tilda swinton as a person until I found out she was one of the actors who defended roman polanski in that petition so I’m left kinda cold by that. It was really disappointing. also I mean, I know jack diddly about Strange mythology other than what I’ve glanced at on marvel wiki but casting Tilda as the Ancient One seems pretty white-washy

I didn’t know how well it would hold up after all this time but it’s so good. Though now I’m sad because I forgot how much I love Nancy and that she dies so horribly.

I liked your AT analysis. It focuses so much on impermanence and the cycle of death and rebirth. We know by now that the candy kingdom is anything but permanent, we know Ooo's total destruction/repopulation in future cataclysmic or perhaps totally banal random events is certain. It's not an easy world to relax in.

I think you sum it up perfectly here. There’s things that in theory should be very relaxing–the sibling relationship between Finn and Jake in particular (in theory there’s nothing more relaxing than a talking dog friend who can expand himself to enormous size and let you snuggle in his fur)–but all those other factors make it hard to burrow down in that. 

Incidentally, Flapjack is in its way even darker than Adventure Time (picture a PG-rated Decemberists number), but it still makes me less uneasy because it takes place in a world which, however grim, is at any rate consistent. And there’s a genuine level of comfort and security provided by an “adult” character, Bubby (Flapjack’s adoptive whale mom), that you just don’t derive from Jake, who’s more of a cool older kid but just as clueless as Finn is really, or from Bubblegum who’s kind of hither and thither.
