Post about Wormwood

So, like many people, I feel like Wormwood's newfound respect for Cedric at the end of the late s3 episode 'Hexley Hall' aged like sour milk because of how he went on to blatantly betray Cedric in s4's 'In Cedric We Trust.' And I wanted to analyze that (a lot of this is from a reblog I made in response to a post from @thelegendofspider about 'Hexley Hall.'

So, a big part of the episode was how especially negative Wormwood was feeling about his so-called failure of a master- even more than usual, most likely because he'd been clearly seeing how close he was growing to Sofia over time and not making taking over the kingdom his main priority anymore (plus, he was likely feeling bitter that Cedric couldn't use the amulet to take over the kingdom without being HORRIBLY cursed, as they both found out the hard way in 'Cedric Be Good'... which wasn't really Cedric's fault, but it was all too easy for Wormwood to blame his "bungling" master). And then being humbled in the end.

I think that even though Wormwood finally realized that Sofia was right in this episode about what a hypocrite he was- and that he learned a valuable lesson in humility, how much of a great team he and Cedric made after working together to defeat Grimtrix's weasel and escape from him, and how proud he was to have him as his master (that he'd been wrong to underestimate him)- he still hated that he learned it from the goody-goody little princess of all people.

And I also think that Wormwood firmly believed- or even made himself believe- the only reason Cedric helped Sofia save her amulet in this episode ('Hexley Hall', that is) was because he still had every intention of stealing it for himself (more than because he cared about her, even though that obviously was the main reason Cedric helped Sofia save her amulet; and I hc that's also true of all the other times he helped her protect her amulet from other villains like Miss Nettle and Ivy, even though Cedric likely always tried telling himself it was only because he needed it for his own plans). Wormwood had no doubt been thrilled that Cedric was determined to try going after the amulet again in this episode- that Cedric was only pretending to help Sofia learn more about the amulet's recent changes in power, when it was really for his own benefit now that he could steal it without being cursed- and he wanted so badly for Cedric to succeed so that he could finally become powerful by association instead of the laughingstock the other sorcerers' familiars regarded him as for being stuck with a bungler like him. So, after Wormwood almost lost his big chance when Cedric cast him out because of his own mistake (which was the only reason he felt bad, make no mistake- for himself and his own ambitions, not for accidentally betraying Cedric; s4's 'In Cedric We Trust' made that very clear when he coldly told Cedric to his face that power and evil were a million times more important to him than their friendship), he was only too thrilled for the chance to help Cedric and Sofia get her amulet back from Grimtrix's weasel and make up with Cedric! Let me use these scenes from the episode to make my point:

He was so proud to be back with Cedric now that his confidence in Cedric's capabilities were restored- and also his confidence that it would only be a matter of time before Cedric would successfully get his hands on the amulet, become king, and Wormwood would have the most powerful master in the world- that he actually addressed him as 'sir'!

And there's his proud parting words to the defeated Grimtrix, his weasel, and the other two animals, right before he joins Cedric and Sofia after a fast-thinking Cedric used the Floating potion on them to escape out the window:

And the final scene:

I headcanon in the next episode Cedric would appear in- e1 of s4, 'Day of the Sorcerers'- Wormwood, with his renewed faith in Cedric and newfound respect for him, was very disappointed that Cedric happily brought Sofia with him to the Conjurer's Conference as his apprentice because he likely worried that he was going to allow his annoying friendship with the goody-goody princess to distract him again. Heck, he probably thought even going to the Conference was a waste of time when Cedric should have been scheming their next move for power. If anything, Wormwood probably hoped Cedric would somehow use being there with Sofia as a way of tricking her or distracting her out of her amulet. Which wasn't the case at all, and you can tell that Cedric had absolutely no nefarious intentions, but simply looked forward to a fun day with Sofia... and if you consider the very strong possibility that Cedric invited her to come, that was H U G E character development, and a sign he'd grown even closer to her since their little adventure at Hexley Hall, which Wormwood was no doubt NOT happy about right after he'd started to have faith in him... and that would explain why Wormwood already didn't seem as loyal to Cedric in 'Day of the Sorcerers' by ordering him around all throughout the episode, and even outright manipulating him down the wrong path when he was suffering his conflict during My Evil Dreams.

I think the Sofia the First sequel show is actually such a good idea but I don't like a lot of what RM is doing, so here's my idea for what I would want from a sequel story.

VERY IMPORTANT: I would like to be clear that I am approaching this from the lens of what this was very originally marketed as, that being a "Sofia the First sequel show", I understand that now most of the new show isn't focused on continuing Sofia's character or story, but rather creating a new show with her as the lead. I think that's fine, I am not critiquing the show for how it is as a show, but as a follow up to the og. This comes purely because I got very excited at the idea of a follow up to the show, and was disappointed with what they actually ended up making. I also understand that most of my ideas likely wouldn't have flyed with Disney and are not realistic.

First, the problem with the new show as a sequel (from what I've seen): There's this weird insistence that it has to recreate aspects of the first show to be successful. It seems unsure of itself, and I think a lot of this disconnect comes from the fact that they've chosen to air it on Disney Jr, so they aren't really making a Sofia the First sequel show, they're making a Disney Jr show and they want to use Sofia as a hook for it. I think this is why they chose to keep her young with a very bright color scheme, as well as making everyone royal and keeping the premise very simple. I'll get into more of the specific problems and how I'd fix them in a minute.

First of all, I think my new pitch would be very similar to the Royal Magic show, which is that "After defeating Vor, Sofia heads off to her new school, Hexley Hall, to train as a royal sorcerer". Hexely Hall is the school for sorcerers that Cedric attended. I would have Sofia go there and not Ever Realm Academy or Charmswell for a few reasons:

She's always shown a special connection to magic, as well as a special interest in Cedric and his work, plus she and Amber want to stay close and work together, so I think her wanting to become a Royal Sorcerer would be a very logical path for her, as opposed to the boring job of advisor they set her up for, she's always been hands on and likes adventure, advisor wouldn't suit her

It would take Sofia out of her comfort zone and into a completely new type of setting, a brooding school of sorcerers is much more interesting than another castle school of royals/nobility, and a bolder departure from the og that would really allow the show to breath as a unique property

Hexley Hall is an already established magic school and it would make more sense for children who wish to learn magic, including Sofia and other royals, to just go there instead of a special "royals only" magic school run by more fairies- which is really indicative of the absolute entitlement of the royals and the unfair class divide that is somehow so gd prevalent in the og show (shoutout to @athenap-wow for pointing this out and now I see it everywhere in the Sofia universe)

Furthermore, I'd make the new show for Disney Channel, Disney XD, or even as a Disney+ Exclusive. I think it would still work as a kids show, but for older kids (9/10+), instead of the disney preschool demographic of Disney Jr. (3+). This would give them the freedom to age her up a bit like she is in the finale, showing that this is in fact a continuation of Sofia's story, which ended with . A redesign, maybe in stylized sorcerer robes, would really convey this. I also think that it would mean they could take a more serious tone with the story when they need to, and tackle more complex character dynamics and issues. As well as giving them freedom to have consistent plot points and serialized elements, like the og, but potentially on a much larger scale. I say all of this because I think that Disney Jr tends to limit all of these. They focus on programming for young kids, so they use very bright colors and quick pacing/editing to keep the kids engaged, try to make the characters little kid age so the kids can relate better (and specifically in Sofia's case, to make her more recognizable), and they are pretty much stuck with the same episodic formula, because preschool kids don't care about serialized stories or arcs.

I am very divided on whether or not there should be a new animation style. I do think redesigns for all the characters are necessary, mostly to show the new era of the world and to separate it from the og show. But when it comes to style, I'm divided. Personally, I don't love the style for the og show, I am very nostalgic for it, but I see it as very dated and can recognize that it doesn't look great looking back. That being said, I abhor the style of RM, it's very Disney Jr, everything, especially the characters are too clean and smoothed, which makes everyone look way too young (and kinda AI), the colors of the show are also way too bright and hurt my eyes. I think any 2D styles would be too offputting to audiences, so I think the best bet is a nicer version of the 3D styles, with a more muted color palate given the new setting.

I also think using Hexley Hall as the backdrop for the show would give them a lot more freedom with their characters and dynamics. For one, it would mean that the cast could have some more variety in their backgrounds than the original and the new show have. Having it be mostly sorcerers would be such a departure from the usual mostly-royal cast. Maybe there's a character that comes from poverty, or one whose parent was one of those underappreciated royal sorcerers who resents Sofia, or another royal who tries to use magic to stand out from their sibling/s, or someone who comes from a long line of sorcerers. There's so many new motivations and complexities you could have Sofia interact with. Even the new characters from RM, who have pretty good designs in my opinion, could be integrated into this new backdrop as non/royals.

(Also, it would solve some of the issues I have with just how many kingdoms have the same system of royalty with kids Sofia's age, it's unrealistic to me tbh, and so introducing a new cast of sorcerers means we get new characters and we keep this a little more possible when it comes to how many kingdoms exsist, as well as who in the family can be considered a "prince" or "princess")

You could still have Miss Nettle as the new headmaster, maybe she took over after Grimtrix was taken to the royal dungeons and it's the first fairy to run the sorcerer's school, and it's a new status quo at the school too. Or it's a new status quo because Grimtrix is back pretending to be good, which has the bonus of giving Sofia a consistent minor antagonist for the show. Either way, I think the mood of the school could be a lot lighter than we see it in the og show, mostly so this show doesn't have to be dark and gritty, I think focusing on the beauty of the magic they're learning would be a better hook for a Sofia the First show tonally.

Hexley Hall could also be used to explore more of the dynamics and history of sorcerers and magic in the Sofia universe, similar to how Elena of Avalor did it with their magic system and lore. I feel like there's a whole unexplored world of magic that we start to understand, but never really comes together. The school looks very old and dark, so I could see it holding a lot of secrets and answers as to the history of sorcerers, and the other characters could give insight into the modern state of magic users in the greater Sofia universe. Specifically the sorcerer community always felt so distinct to me, and I'd loooove to see that explored through more young characters. (Oooh, you could also bring back Calista)

Sofia dealing with such a unique environment would be a great catalyst for personal growth and new arcs. In a way it could be almost a mirror of her starting at Royal Prep and messing up a lot, but for a new reason: instead of going from normal to royal, she's going from royal to magic. I also think it would be a nice transition/connection for her to really take on the role of Cedric's apprentice, or at least see him help her come into her own as a magic user. Or there could be a storyline where Sofia helps Calista start at the school, mirroring her and Cedric. I could see this show going for a couple seasons, ending in a graduation like the first show, maybe with the big moment being Sofia choosing her sorcerer's name, like Sofia the Sincere, or the Spirited.

Personally, I would just drop and ignore the Isles, like, keep them in the lore, but explain away why Sofia's time there was cut short, or I'd have her have a storyline where she realizes she can't juggle both things at once and she gives her position as the Protector to a new character (mb James?). (and yes, that would invalidate a lot of S4 of the og show, including parts of the ending, but genuinely, I feel like the Isles were the worst part of the og and I feel like Sofia would be a much stronger character without needing a magic destiny from them, and overall, I just want to write it away, and it's my fake pitch, so I fucking can). Also, I'd do something similar with the Storykeeper stuff, I don't remember how that ended in the show, but I'd just fucking ignore it. No ending.

I still think you could keep the family, and the princesses, and specifically I would love to see how Sofia's amulet affects her ability to use traditional magic. Idk, I'm getting really tired and don't have much more than this. I think my last little thing is this: I do not think this show pitch would be even that reasonable, due to how I feel it would be too different to the og show for anyone to like it or for it to be picked up. Personally, this is what I'd want from a Sofia follow up show, but I think everyone else would absolutely hate it if it was real, y'know.

Idk, give me your thoughts, I'd love to hear what people have to say about this idea I had.

Edit: I'd also give it a unique theme song, and keep the music more classic/broadway style songs, like the original.

Do How Sorcerers Dress Tell Us Something About What They Studied? - Or How I Decided What Character's Studied Based On Patterns IN Their Dress: Part 2

So, in the previous post, I primarily answered two things:

How does Hexley Hall organizes courses of study by age/ year?

What makes Sorcerers different from Fairies, Witches, and Humans as far as magic goes?

The Basic Summary of the previous post is that:

Sorcerers ARE NOT born/ DO NOT originate on the Mystic Isles.

Fairies and Witches are/did.

Fairies color code themselves based on personality.

Witches dress based on Good Witch/ Neutral Witch/ Bad Witch affiliation.

Sorcerers dress based on field of study/ specialization.

Fairies spell cast based on "personality/" what they love to do.

Witches spell cast through their alignment - Good/Neutral/Evil.

Sorcerers combine both and cast out of the place where their alignment meets their interest.

Fairies "apprentice" under other Fairies until their powers stabilize, at which point, they can start to cast/ learn whatever they want/ write spells on their own.

Witches have free flowing and "experimental" magic and, most frequently, learn by trial and error. They grow in power as they age & their lived wisdom increases.

Sorcerers gain magic through pattern recognition & intensely following one particular interest that is connected to the "Wish that makes them who they are."

Additional General Notes On Spell Casting

Sorcerers that cast spells that go against that "Wish," most frequently, end up with a product that does not work/ is botched.

With the following exceptions:

Their Wish has been removed

The Sorcerer's mind/heart/body has been cursed **

The Sorcerer experiences some other form of manipulation/ loss of control of their body (example: mind control)

** Even when cursed, depending on the degree or severity, the core of that Sorcerer may still be INSIDE them and would, thus, prevent the Sorcerer from going against their "desire" entirely. **

This is WHY Sorcerers cast both from alignment AND personality/what they most love to do.

However, this means that, of the three spell casters, Sorcerers are the most "specialized" because fewer things, on average, will turn out for them.

Witches can cast ANY spell they discover, write, learn, or know within their alignments and a version of it will turn out. The degree of power that Witch's spell holds will be based on how old they are/ how much life they've lived.

Fairies can cast ANY spell so long as it suits their basic desire. The examples I used in the previous post were "growth" and "protection," but there are more ideas I have for "desires," those were just the first two I thought of.

However, Fairy spells don't have to suit any particular ALIGNMENT to be cast. A Fairy could cast a spell that is knowingly harmful and still have it turn out, even if they considered themselves "Good," so long as they were doing it out of their core "desire."

(Further Example: A fairy whose desire is to "protect" might temporarily use magic harm a creature, if it was attempting to/ had hurt someone/ something they considered within their domain of "protection." Depending upon the severity of the injury to their charge/ the object of their "protection," they may or may not even go back to administer healing to the creature in question.)

Therefore, Fairies and Witches are probably on equal, though different, levels of raw magical power/ range.

However, despite this, Sorcerers can, hypothetically, do and/or learn the most within a SINGULAR TYPE/ SCHOOL OF MAGIC because of the hyperspecificity of their range of interest.

So, this post seeks to answer:

How do we know who studied what?

So, this section will honestly answer both questions at the same time. I grouped and organized each as follows:

However, there are a few characters that I will hold to the end - Goodwyn, Wu Chang, Morgana and Grimtrix - because I want to talk about the ideas of using clothes to denote multiple fields of study/ "Majors" and "Minors."

But, yeah, in general, I feel like "Music Magic" as a discipline is, probably, a basic subcategory of "Transmutation" - you take the physical properties of sound and make new stuff/ alter other stuff? Like, that seems logical???

You'll also notice that, generally, Winifred, Morgana, and Cordelia's "Conjuration Purples" all seem to live more in the "cool" family

Cedric's "Restoration Purple" lives more in the "warm" purple family

On the subject of Cordi:

Again, that's not really a "warm" pink either.

So, Conjuration would have a cool undertone

But, she and Cedric both have that sort of interesting gold accent - Bowtie for him, belt for her.

** Pecullian is "Sorcery Professor Gorg" who wears street clothes, never wears regalia, and is an outlier who should not be counted. Y'all his name is basically "Professor Peculiar" ... He's not ... He's not gonna fit. I can't make him fit.

Goodwyn: The Double Major, Because He's Just That Great

I have two theories on why Goodwyn's outfits are so different when he was younger vs when he was older:

ONE:

Goodwyn has two majors: One in Destruction - definitely has that - and one in Conjuration.

OR

He's highlighting a minor in the second image because you'll notice his vest is still a pretty dark red.

My running theory/ HC is that he had two different majors because Winifred were a little farther apart in school. Thus, he ended up deciding to remain at Hexley for a while and do research/ pick up a second major while she was finishing school.

I came to this conclusion if only because Winifred looks like she could be younger than Goodwyn by a handful of years. So, this made sense to me.

However, despite getting asked to fill the position of Royal Sorcerer before Winifred was completely finished with school, Goodwyn finished his second major in like a year and half.

So, he, technically, has two majors ... because ... you know? ... He's Goodwyn ... why wouldn't he?

Wu Chang: Another Educator, But, Does He Have A Specialization In What He Teaches?

Once more, like Merlin, Wu Chang has that true double blue going on in his robes. And, despite having a black accented belt, his main robe colors are always two variations of blue.

Additionally, his base blue robe is far brighter than Greylock's blue robe - which I have on several occasions mistaken for black depending on how dark the room is around the TV.

However, something interesting I noticed about Wu Chang's second blue on blue ensemble was that it appeared to have undertones of green in the blue. Also,in the episode he was wearing that robe, he was pursuing a medicinal cure for Jun.

(I feel like the Incredibles meme right now ... but stick with me.)

So, it made me wonder if Wu Chang, like Cedric's Teacher, may have been focused on teaching Restoration, Alchemy, or some intersection of both because of his knowledge of Men-Saing and it's magical healing properties.

Morgana: Truly What Wearing Your "Minor Specalization" Looks Like

So, the red accent she's wearing is what I truly envisioned when I was thinking of someone wearing their "Minor Specialization."

When I had the thought of what Majors vs. Minors looked like, I was really envisioning something JUST like this.

The red scarf for her Minor in Destruction, and the long purple robe + silver jewelry for the major in Conjuration.

Grimtrix: Headmaster Robes

What you'll notice here is that the colors of every school are represented in the clothing of Grimtrix's Headmaster Robes.

I'm going to jump out on a limb here and say this is intentional because the Headmaster of Hexley Hall would preside over all the disciplines.

Though, like Morgana, I'm going to say Grimtrix has minors in Destruction Magic, but majored in Illusion.

I ended up making this into a three part series in order to pan out the story with a tad more detail, so more chapters will be posted soon! Being born the daughter of Master Erwin, there was never a doubt that your destiny would be written in the stars. His blatant adoration for the universe beyond Earth’s doorstep had been clear to you from an early age and, given you were his only child, he desired nothing more than to pass all of his knowledge down to you. 

The only issue that arose with that desire was that your focus wasn’t entirely directed towards space; your ambitions were more...Earth-based. 

Completely unbothered by this fact though, your father set out on a journey to find the most fitting subject he could study with you. Because, in his eyes, your interests were his interests; and having a relationship with his daughter was far more important than any of the mysteries the vast and never-ending universe could hold. 

The search didn’t take as long as he expected though, because your likes and dislikes fit surprisingly well with a subject he was very familiar with in his schoolboy years: Alchemy. 

By interpretation, Alchemy is a “sort of terrestrial astronomy” that deals with all sorts of human and worldly aspects. Which fit both of your interests to a “T,” thankfully.

When that was decided, he began to introduce you to the magical world of alchemy and what it entailed. Each day he would offer new texts on Alchemy, Magic, and the universe as well as provide fresh insights on the universe’s effects on the human body. What filled you with the most intrigue though, was how you could use the items the world offered you in order to heal, change, and create other living organisms. So much so that you ended up working together to create a spell and potion that turns rocks into ravens.

Sadly, your passion for contributing to the world around you was so blinding that you completely forgot about how you would go about implementing that knowledge and passion.

That is, until you had been told you were to be sent off to a real academy by your mother. The one place you did not want to end up going.

That fact had left you slightly heartbroken since you could no longer spend your days endlessly pouring into Alchemical books and having passionate discussions with your father, but excited you with the prospect of a proper education…….One where you would have to attend a school that had none of your friends. One where you would have to spend all of your days and nights toiling over the assignments your teachers assigned to you. One at Hexley Hall.

After two hours of travelling to the esteemed ‘Academy of Wizardry,’ you had begun to feel stiff and in dire need of a decent stretch. Even if it meant standing outside in the chill September wind. 

At this point though, you were willing to do anything to rid your body of its mental and physical stress. Up until now, the only thing that kept you distracted from the bile your anxiety had been threatening to dispel from your body was reading the book your father gave you: “Distilling Nature’s Secrets: The Sacred Art of Alchemy.” But you had already finished that in the first hour of the ride and were now left with the gnawing feeling of dread that came with being thrown into an unfamiliar environment; one where you wouldn’t have the comforting words of your father to calm you down.

Before you could drive yourself further into a sense of dread, the sight of a tower looming over a hill stole all of your attention.

Pulling yourself to the carriage’s window, you saw the place that you would be spending the rest of your childhood at: Hexley Hall. 

The school that would teach you everything you wanted to know about the ancient art of alchemy. 

Its windows glistened with evening dew and its structure held a contrast you were not familiar with until now. Growing up in Enchancia’s castle, you had only known modern, sleek, and upbeat architecture. Hexley Hall though, defied all of those tropes. It possessed intricate designs, a soulfully picturesque look, and an eerie aesthetic. One that you felt you could get used to. Especially if the inside held a matching look.

After making a swift landing, you thanked your coachman, acquired your luggage, and began to make your way towards the crowd of fellow newcomers. 

The entire entrance to the school was bustling with excited new students, and their confused glances and demeanors were beginning to ease your anxious mind. Maybe everyone else was as 'in the dark' as you were...Maybe you weren’t alone in your strife.

That discombobulation you all possessed didn’t last long though, and soon enough you were all ushered in by what seemed to be one of the teachers. After being brought into the Great Hall for a brief rundown of how the school worked and who would be teaching you all, schedules were floated to their respective owners and maps of the school were provided to each student. 

Looking down at the map, each child had a glowing mark on where their assigned dorm was located. Ironically enough, yours was in the area dedicated to potioneers, alchemists, and other magicians dedicated to the physical arts. 

Dinner commenced shortly after introductions were made and, after a bout of awkward shuffling, you found a quiet location to eat and began your trek to your new dormitory.

By chanting a wandless spell to the map, an arrow led to your room where you began to unpack. 

Given you didn’t bring many items besides books and clothes, you quickly laid yourself down on the comfortable mattress and ran through the events of the day. Although you still hadn't met any friends yet, you did gain insight into the place you'd be spending the rest of your teenage life at.

Putting aside those thoughts, you curled around your pillow and fell into a blissful sleep.

Looks about right, you thought to yourself as you made your way down to the Great Hall for breakfast. Although you would have preferred Alchemy as the starting class of your day, potions was definitely a good choice as well. 

What bothered you more than the order or your classes though, was who would have to interact with during these assigned classes. 

But that’s a problem for later, you thought to yourself as you devoured the first of many breakfasts at the Wizarding School of Enchancia.

Being the first person to class, you had the advantage of picking the best seat in the classroom. At least, that was what you hoped to happen until a mop of multi colored hair caught your eye. 

Although you didn’t mind the place he had sat in before you could choose, he was sitting in the spot next to the one you DID prefer. 

that doesn’t matter you thought, maybe he could be my first friend….He couldn’t be that bad could he?

You decided to try your luck and hesitantly tapped the young boy's right shoulder. Whipping his head around he gave you a questioning look that you assumed meant: "??? Can I help you?"

"Do you mind if I sit next to you? I like the feel of this corner and you don't look half as bad as the rest of our class."

His startled, yet hopeful, look gave you the impression he didn't get approached much. Let alone get told that he looked welcoming. 

Despite that though, his face softened and he said, 

"Really?....I suppose I don't mind." 

He cautiously lifted his palm to you and said, "My names Cedric. I'm coming here to become the next Royal Sorcerer. What about you?"

With a firm grip, you shook his hand and settled down into your seat. Taking out your schedule you replied, "(y/n) Erwin! I'm studying to become the Royal Alchemist!"

Gripping your chin with an inquisitive look, you added a quick, "You wouldn't happen to be related to Goodwyn the Great would you? I thought I recognized you at first, but I couldn't quite place from where…."

"Uhm….Yeah, I am. D-did you live at the castle as well?"

You fiddled with your papers until they were straightened properly and looked at him, saying, "Yep. My dad's the Royal Astronomer, so we get to live with him at the castle…..I've seen you around you know….I always meant to say hi, but your dad and sister seemed to take up most of your time."

He rubbed his wrists anxiously and let out a, "yeah, they tend to do that…...but I digress. Do wanna compare schedules? I don't have any friends either, and you don't seem that bad as well…."

Looking down at the schedule he gripped in his hand, you noticed that it didn't seem so far off from yours. You were both new to the school after all, so it made a tad bit of sense. Luckily you wouldn't have to split up very much for the next couple of years.

Surprisingly, it seemed as though you would be seeing a lot of each other. Which didn't seem to bother either of you that much. After confirming your new friendship and planning your day out together, you both set up your supplies and began your first class of the day.

After cleaning up your respective area of the shared potions table, you reminisced on how well the class had actually gone. Despite both of you being new, you and Cedric seemed to work in a sort of synchronized state. Even your teacher pointed out how good you two were together. This had made you both proud, but you noticed that it had made Cedric especially happy. 

Given the way that he had acted and responded to your questions, you inferred that his home life…..probably wasn't that great. Especially if the tiniest amount of praise made his day ten times brighter.

Which is why you had made a vow to yourself that you would do everything in your power to make him realize his self worth. After all, not everyone had a supportive father and family like you did. 

Picking up the last of your mess, you threw your bag over your robbed shoulder and asked, “Would you mind if I sat with you in our other classes as well today? I’m not really…..friends with anyone else here yet and we seem to make a good team. Plus, you seem really sweet.”

“I’d love to!,” he said in an excitable raised voice. His face broke out in a flustered blush at how desperate he sounded and quickly let out a, “I mean, if that’s what you want to do…”

To that, you chuckled and lightly punched his shoulder saying, “Of course I would you dork. Now let's hurry up so we can get the best seats in our next class."

After that day, the two of you were like two peas in a pod. Whenever you both had a class, were going somewhere, or ate, you were attached to the hip. Even teachers knew that, if they couldn’t find one of you, they wouldn’t find the other either as well. 

For you two, there was never a subject left unstudied, never a prank left undone, and never a conversation left undiscussed.

It started off with you both teaming up in your shared classes, meeting for meals, and talking on the way to class, but soon branched off outside of school. 

With coaching from you, and years of positive reinforcement on your end, Cedric had been coaxed out of his hesitant and neglected shell. All it took was one fond look and a caress of his hair from you and Cedric was turned into mush. The love you showed him through the years made him see that not everyone was out to get him. And not everyone was untrustworthy. 

In summary, you brought hope in humanity back into his life. Something that he surely would have gone off the deep-end without.

To others, it seemed as though you had put him under a spell and transformed him into a new man; Cedric had never felt so confident in his life.

 Especially since he never had anyone to support him. Until you, that is……

(Year 7 at Hexley Hall)

Flicking your wand in a cursive “J” formation, you pointed your wand at the painted black stone and whispered, “Avifors.” 

Within seconds, the rock morphed in size and began to take the shape of a sleek, black raven. 

Pecking the tip of your index finger, it cocked its head at you and turned to inspect Cedric.

Cedric, gazing back at the bird, looked absolutely stunned at the sight of this seemingly never-heard-of spell and immediately began to shift his eyes to you and then raven. He wasn’t sure where you had learned that, since you were only taking alchemy classes, but he was beyond interested in knowing.

“Merlin’s Beard! Did you make that spell up all on your own?”

“Not exactly,” you chuckled, “My father and I worked for days to come up with the correct spell and paint concoction when I was a child. But it worked out, and now I have a way to create any type of bird to do my bidding!”

Setting his chin in his palm, he began to gaze fondly at the scene in front of him and think about all the things he has yet to learn about you. 

“Would it be alright if you taught me that spell? I know it’s yours and everything….. but it’s too bloody brilliant to be left unpracticed.”

“Sure!.......I'll write it down for you by tomorrow.”

You blushed and stared down at your feet. Showing him you and your father’s spell had made you nervous at first, thinking he would find it childish compared to his studies. But his unwavering attention in it showed you that maybe it wasn’t that bad after all…..

After that day, you knew that you were in love with Cedric. He had been with you at every step of the way through your years at Hexley Hall, and you knew that he would be there for you for days to come. Working at Enchancia’s castle wouldn’t stop the bond that you both had formed over the years. Especially since you two would be working close together. 

With each other until the end, that’s what you both had promised one another. 

‘If only it was in a romantic sense,’ you thought to yourself, gazing up at the great expanse in the night sky. 

With a huff of a laugh, you kicked the rocks in front of you. 

As if…………..
