I'm really glad to see that this article exists, honestly. My fiancée and I binged all of Mrs Maisel over the last few weeks, and I really loved it! But the way they treated Astrid, the only (I think) convert character on the show, really bothered me. It felt really uncomfortable that she was the butt of all the jokes, treated as weird for her observance, and written as such a pathetic try-hard. Her character just made me so sad!
I haven't even formally started the conversion process yet, and it still made me feel squirmy and almost... embarrassed? It felt really mean-spirited in an otherwise feel-good show.

But even more excitingly (at least for me, anyway), Greta Gerwig’s gift is extremely kosher for Passover. In addition to the trailer, the full “Barbie” cast was revealed — and folks, we’ve got some Jewish Barbies!!! Four Jewish actors are featured alongside Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, Issa Rae, Simu Liu, Kate McKinnon, Dua Lipa and more. (This feels extremely appropriate considering Barbie inventor Ruth Handler was Jewish, making the most famous doll ever a de facto member of the tribe.)
So before the Barbie movie drops on July 21st, let’s learn more about these fabulous actors. Or, in other words, come on Jewish Barbies, let’s go party! (read more)
