The Queen has held a face-to-face audience with General Sir Nick Carter, the Chief of the Defence Staff, at Windsor Castle today – her first official engagement since missing the Remembrance Sunday service.

This is an appreciation post for one Elizabeth Ortecho who, when asked what she wanted for herself, immediately had an answer. But more importantly, she had an answer that was for herself.
*Spoilers*
Her first answer was not citizenship for her father, that was her second point on the list. Even though she clearly loves Arturo and has been living with the threat of his deportation over her head literally her entire life, which has had a not insignificant affect on her, that was not her number one.
Her number one, which she supplied without hesitation, was a Nobel Prize. An achievement which would recognize HER for her contributions to science. It is, objectively, a selfish desire. And I could handwave and twist it and point out that a Nobel Prize would honor her for her positive contributions to science that would help a lot of people, so by wanting one she actually wants to save lives and in comparison wanting citizenship for Arturo is selfish but that’s bullshit.
Liz’s goal of a Nobel Prize is for her and her alone, borne out of her own interests and her own hard work. It’s not just a desire to do something that changes the world, it’s a desire to get credit for it. And that’s significant because we live in a society where women are taught that their wants and wishes are secondary. That everyone else comes first. That, if you do manage to be useful on your own merit, you don’t ask for recognition.
So the fact that Liz’s first answer was “selfish”? Is something I’m incredibly here for.
The "not game related chat" in my dnd server can sometimes be absolutely lawless.

Liz: Steve decided to start a babysitters club but it just ended up being him.
Me: Look, I think if there's one thing season one established it's that Steve Harrington isn't great at getting people to join his crew.
Me and @liiiiiiizzzz are on exact opposite ends of the desire of romance spectrum. She’s the bitch who’s all “oh shit step on me. My lovely lady stab me with a knife. I want you to destROY ME.” Where as I am more like “I just kinda wanna hold hands for a little bit.... Maybe watch the stars and talk for a few hours while cuddling.”
FOUND FAMILY AND/OR KIDFIC :) :) :) :) :)
@goddamnrey this is you. I know this is you.
How likely I am to write it: I think at some point all of my fics merge into one giant found family so…very likely. Kidfic I have to actively avoid writing so, again, very likely. I love writing both of these, they are truly the writing I like to sink my fingers into.
What character(s) or pairing I’d most likely write it for: For Found Family, LITERALLY ANY CHARACTERS OR PAIRING. Found Family is a universal trope–everyone can find a family, it’s so lovely? For kidfic, I tend to draw the line for characters/pairings who have, specifically, in canon, said kids aren’t for them. Example: I believe Aveline even though I wrote her with a kid in Champion’s Coffer before I learned this was something she mentioned not desiring, but :shrugs: I know now going further. It is something I try to keep an ear to the ground about as someone who doesn’t want children, myself.
