I don’t think you ever really stop missing someone you once loved. Maybe the ache in your chest fades to a dull throbbing that you can easily pretend is your heartbeat and maybe your fingertips regain feeling in the tips other than what soft skin and chapped lips felt like. You don’t miss them until you see them in the hall or on the street and they’re wearing the jacket they wore on your first date that you kept in your closet for months. And they’ve got their arms around someone that kind of looks like you and they’re grinning at them with all the fucking sunshine in their mouth. And in that very moment your heart just about falls on to the ground in front of you and makes a terrible noise and you’ve hardly got time to pick up as many pieces as you can and run away, leaving a stain on the pavement and 4 missed calls from them asking if you needed the pieces you left behind.
