Fun Facts: 1. She is on a cross-country road trip to see her great granddaughter. 2. She tends to adopt younger people during mysteries and looks after them. 3. Her becoming a catgirl was relatively recent and she has thought she was the only weird occurrence.

Character Sheet:

The sheet is significant because her skills and traits make how she investigates mysteries different from other characters. Her best skills focus on social interactions with other characters, and her worst are around her ability to be physically capable in a more direct way. She's older in a way that makes her more fragile. She is a calming presence to those around her. She loves helping people. She's a catgirl, which comes with its own challenges and a need to hide that fact from other people.

Character Spotlight: Lil'Zak

He was dared to solve a series of murders, after annoying his roomates by deducting who ate his last slice of pizza

His roomates call him Kid or Goat, as they are each associated with an animal (Like Badger and Fox)

He is surprisingly knowledgable about — and surviving in — nature

Character Sheet Clipping:

Shown here is Zak's inventory, the items he carries on his person, and the items located at home. Based on how much is on-person one might be able to tell how closely guarded that little rascal is about his stuff and himself. Having an oversized jacket with many pockets definitely helps with all that. I want to pay special attention to the Rosary; his Comfort Item. Lil'Zak has a trait called Comfort Item, that allows him to gain a bonus for Composure Rolls (Eureka's Stress Mechanic) as long as he carries a particular item with him. For him it's a Rosary that he's had with him since he was dropped off at an orphanage and carried with him to the present. He didn't really believe in the faith, just carrying it around as superstitious protection, but during the module I played with him he might just have started believing in angels. Fun Facts:

A 23-year-old trans girl born and raised in a small town in Texas.

Has a crush on her friend who is also a trans girl and is secretly a real actual catgirl with ears and a tail. Gwen has come so close to learning this secret but these two are so bad at being open with each other and expressing their feelings properly that she still doesn't know. This other girl is played by another player. Will-They-Won't-They, Only-One-Bed yuri in the middle of a murder investigation. This is surprisingly normal for Eureka.

Character Sheet Clipping:

Eureka is a game about mundane, ordinary people trying to solve a mystery. Traits are one of the most unique parts of each character- special abilities that heavily define their personalities and the way they investigate. Gwen's traits are "Cheerleader", "I'm Okay, You're Okay", and "The Truth Comes Out". "Cheerleader" makes her better at cooperating with other investigators; a bonus to help checks and the ability to spend her Eureka! Points on others instead of herself. She isn't trying to take the spotlight; she's too shy for that, she'd rather help others instead, it's an easy way to get others to like you, too. "I'm Okay, You're Okay" let's Gwen comfort herself as well as others; she's talking to herself a lot when she's stressed, but without this trait, she'd be a whole lot more stressed. This is partly because I gave her the optional fear of 'Upsetting Others', so she has a chance to lose Composure every time she thinks she's upset someone. This is a mechanical representation of her social anxiety; she has to convince herself it's okay every time she thinks she's annoyed someone or committed any sort of social faux pas. "The Truth Comes Out" is a really fun one; she gets a bonus to social skill rolls, but she can really lose a lot of Composure every time she tells a lie; that +1 bonus is a huge help on 2d6 that has gotten her a lot info she would have otherwise missed, but not being able to lie very well has also landed her in a lot of trouble. This one is also very clearly a representation of her social anxiety. In no other game is 'some girl who has severe social anxiety' a really powerful character, but Gwen has opened doors (literally and metaphorically) in the investigation that the other two investigators couldn't because of her specific skill set.

She only just figured out she's gay and she has a LOT of internalized homophobia to work through

She LOVES cars, especially her car, a 1949 Pontiac Silverstreak, which she maintains herself despite her disability

She went to Barnard for a year and saw Rothko's Yellow, Cherry, Orange, and has been obsessed with abstract art since.

Every Eureka character has 3-6 traits that define their character, and the traits are really, really good. A lot of people have started writing these little phrases to encapsulate how a trait applies to a character. Josie is neurotic. She's obsessed with numbers, she breaks down if she lies, she never lets things go once she cares about them even when they are actively detrimental to her health. She's also privileged and sheltered. All of that is set up to lead to an interesting collision when she starts investigating a mystery. (It is worth noting the grievous injury isn't a trait; I put it there because it's convenient to reference).

Fun Facts:

Her nickname comes from the islanders saying she was "not long for this world"-- originally meaning that she was always looking over the horizon, planning her departure.

She enjoys playing sailor's card games, smoking her clay pipe, and brooding out over the ocean.

I took a lot of inspiration from Carpenter from the Silt Verses for Mayfly!

This is the final advancement of The Slate House Broadside- the Power of the island that lays claim to Mayfly. I played towards this end the whole game as a tragedy awaiting poor Ysmay. She is a Homecomer, a islander who many years left the idyllic island where Harvest takes place. She had intended never to return, but after the outside world hardened her, taught her to lie, and how to say no-- it broke her heart. She came back to the island that once tried to kill her. And the Slate House, her severe and ancient family home. The Slate House, that she burned to the ground when she left, still standing despite it. Her family, who one by one fell to the Sacrificial Knife-- a man who once, she would have called family too. Mayfly took his family in return, in a vicious fued that ended with his knife in her chest. She stood before him, meaning to protect the Island's proper sacrifice, her successor, the would-be lover she handed over to the Knife in a moment of bitter betrayal. She woke on the cold floor of The Slate House, knowing her own sacrifice did nothing to stop the Island's own. And that the island loves her too much to ever let her go.

Character Sheet Clipping:

This is the weapons part of Thomas' mech sheet. Redroom is equipped with a lot of weapons, some of which do not fit an engineer and most of them were retrofitted to work like industrial tools for ease of use. The weapons are named after some of the most well known logical paradoxes, something that Thomas' hacker brother influenced a lot.

There's the Occam's Razor, Ship of Theseus and Lincoln's Ax combined into one, a pair of cannons on one mount which references the All Ravens Are Black logical paradox with a reference to Odin's ravens. Canis Major is a deep cut because it refers to one of the oldest paradoxes; Laelaps and the Teumessian Fox - a hound that always catches its prey and the fox that always escapes. The chase between them went on until Zeus turned both to stone and cast them into the stars as the constellations Canis Major and Canis Minor due to their contradictory and confusing nature.

All of these paradoxes essentially foreshadow Thomas' backstory which involved boarding an abandoned ship to salvage some tech that dealt with paracausal technology, which often times can go horribly wrong. For seeing what it did to the ship, Thomas and his brother became a target of the company they were hired by.
