Jihyun was bored.

When such an occurrence happened, that could either mean a good thing or a bad thing for the people around her, but it always meant she was thinking of potential things to do. A new video skit? Maybe she should look back at the plots of stories she hasn’t outlined yet. Or maybe she should take a break from editing her video to think of what to have for lunch.

As these thoughts went through her mind, she heard the door to one of their bathrooms close. Usually at this time of day Jonghyun would be taking a shower, and she checked the clock on her computer to make sure of that. Eventually the sound of the shower-head running water confirmed her suspicions.

Well, maybe she should leave a little surprise for him for when he returned.

Jihyun hopped off the couch right when the inspiration hit her and snuck into her brother’s room to find his phone resting on his desk. This was the only time she could do this, seeing as taking the dependable piece of technology under running water would be kind of dumb. Quick, she didn’t have a lot of time to work with. Thankfully she knew his password, and now it was time for her to leave her gift.

Step one: change his unlock password. Step two: search for a picture of a monkey butt and save it as his lock screen. (seriously, those baboon butts are so red and big) Step three: change as many kakaotalk contacts as she could to animal names. (she managed quite a few: prairie dog, fennec fox, snapping turtle, common frog, sugar glider, and so on)

She’s not sure just how much time passed since the start of this plan, but once she heard the water stop running, she put his phone to sleep and placed it back on his desk like it wasn’t touched at all. Her steps were light as she retraced them and left everything the way it was before. Jihyun sat back on the couch with her laptop on her lap once again.

When their mother told them that one of her family friend’s son was moving to Korea, Jihyun and Jonghyun were more than happy to offer their help on getting him settled in. The name Angelo did seem familiar, maybe from meeting him at one point or another when they visited the US with their mother, but unfortunately for Jihyun that was but a distant memory.

She was happy to make new ones, however, already making plans on where to take him, then showing him the places that she liked going to. She went to the lengths of introducing him to some of the store and restaurant owners she and Jonghyun knew so they could also treat the newcomer nicely. But after Angelo said that in all the times he’s visited Korea that he’s never gone to the touristy spots in the city, Jihyun’s options opened up tenfold. Meeting him and showing him around didn’t happen as often as she would have liked, and tour guiding a friend around while her brother was taking classes or another didn’t seem as fun even if he gave her permission to go without him.

So, on this rare occasion where they all had time to spare, the twins took him out to Seoul’s shopping district in Myeongdong. Any street foods in the area that Angelo wanted to try was paid by either of the older siblings, as well as one or two items that maybe Angelo had his eye on but hesitated to buy for one reason or another.

Today’s main event came around a walk away when they took the cable car up to the tallest mountain in the city. It was a beautiful spot right when the sun was going down, and she made sure to take pictures and videos, along with buying him a padlock they could all write on to add to the growing collection on the mountain’s peak. That’s what Namsan Tower was famous for anyway.

After exhausting all they could, a comment was made about being hungry and suggestions of what to eat following. They were on the subway an agreement later back to Hongdae for some barbecue and drinks (Jihyun was thankful that Angelo wasn’t a stranger to social drinking), and found a restaurant to sit in where they ordered samgyupsal and a bottle of soju.

“I don’t know about you, but I noticed that people back in the US don’t really walk as much as they do here,” Jihyun quipped as they waited for the raw food to come, smiling at the younger. “How are your feet? Was today fun?”

Some hobbies were just like an addiction; the satisfaction comes from coming back to it over and over again until they get their fix. Something that wasn’t as readily available made it more desireable in the person’s eyes. However, Jihyun and Jonghyun singing to their heart’s content is less of an addiction and more of just a craving although they do go quite often to noraebang. They wouldn’t even deny it. The simple reason why they don’t have their own system at home was that they were kind to their neighbors; if they were really going to sing at home, everyone in the whole building would hear it.

Jihyun looks through the song book after snapping a few photos of the place. She’s 100% going to take out her camera to record themselves on those fun songs. “Why don’t you do the honors and choose the first one?”
