I don’t know why I bought this. Not that I didn’t enjoy building it, but even all these years later, I still have terrible mold fatigue for the Gundam Frames. And that’s partly because I paint them all the same, but all the Gundam Frames are the same, so there’s a precedent for it. And to top it off, I had a terrible experience with the Marchosias. I bought it on instinct, and I really shouldn’t have. Don’t buy things on impulse because you bought anything/everything else in the line, people. It’s not good practice.
Although, it did teach me about Deira Nadira, the Gremory’s pilot and a very politically powerful, black lesbian. Yes, Gundam, more of this please.
The Good: I like the armor on this kit a lot. Aesthetically, it’s very cool, with the way the head armor works, adjustable arm guards, and the new way it does its front hip skirt (which are attached to a ball on the side skirts rather than the front). It’s a neat set of gimmicks and new engineering.
The Bad: The Gundam Frame is a very repetitive build, and even new armor doesn’t help alleviate that. Apart from that, while the hood is up is hinders head movement a bit, and down it sticks off the back a lot. The shoulders are centered quite low because of how high the shoulder armor extends on both ends of the joint. And the front skirts, while I like how they’re constructed, pop off their joints sometimes, and are more intrusive than normal.
The Details: I tried replicating how I’ve painted the Gundam Frames in the past, with gold on many of the joint and hydraulic details and Ahab Reactors, and red and blue on the wires to simulate arteries and veins.
As for the armor; black. A lot of black. Mostly black. All of the inset details are filled in with black, along with the underside of the hood to help catch more light and cast more shadows. The only other details I added were gold to the shoulders, eyes, and a few rivets on the back. For the anchor, I again used black for in inset details, but for the broken part I did a bit of dry brushing to make it look more like worn metal (first gold, then black, then gold again).
Overall, I enjoyed this kit, and I probably would have enjoyed it more if I hadn’t built almost every other Gundam Frame in existence before it. Still, it’s one of the better ones, and if you like IBO, I suggest checking it out.
