Messy airbrush session but shiny results
First build and sanding
It was been a while. Better start again with something “easier”
1/100 Vidar custom colors. Just experimented a bit with metallic/candy and preshading
Almost done After a lot of trials I found an “almost stable” way to merge the old FXA-05D module to the new MKII. I tried, at first, to put the module on the MKII like it was wearing a coat but it was very unstable so I decided for a “thunderbolt-ish” approach with the 2 shields on the sides. There are many improvements on this kit over the 2001 one. - Legs have better proportions, details and gimmicks - Torso now can make some crunch side to side and front to back - Arms has better details on the elbows
There are many flaws too: - Legs can’t do a full split because of the horrible joint on the crotch - Rear skirt still doesn’t move blocking some legs movement - Still those tissue pipes behind the legs? Oh, c’mon! Changes: Color scheme Shoulderpads scribed Legs scribed, V-fins merged Shields on the backpack arms
Masking. Winter isn’t the best season to paint something. Still lots of errors, so wash, putty, sand, paint aaaaaand repeat.
Scribing: lot of errors and lot of putty to remove those errors.
Interludium.
MGBF Build Gundam MKII
Let’s return on something bigger
I heard a lot of bad things about this kit. It has loose articulations, not so many details, blah blah... but I love the MKII style and that cons can be fixed.
Sprues that will haunt my dreams.
Chromed pistons are quite a nice touch, the stickers and the ugly tissue pipe definitely not
Very nice thing: The kit has both MKII versions pieces but It hasn’t the platform of the UC one.
Let’s start with some new panel line (and a lot of putty to fix my messes)
Gunpla Builders You Should Be Following
I figured I would make a shout out to the gunpla builders on Tumblr that you should be following. These builders are active here and post regularly with what they do.
NOTE: THIS IS NOT A COMPLETE LIST. This were just the first 8 builders that came to mind. I regularly check who is building and posting and try to share works that I like
@g-29astarothtrinity is nearing completion on an Amuro Ray custom Dijeh build from what I can tell. Excited to see the final product. Also actively plays the mobile game Gundam Battle: Gunpla Warfare.
@orloph very good looking builds and high quality work. Also just won a prize for their Sazabi build.
@christianmswanson very cool builds with his Gundam Wing MG kits and his videos are fun to watch. Lots of Wing Gundam nostalgia.
@the-purple-comet excellent Zeon builds and kit bashes. Very interesting to see what is to come next from their work.
@garrettb115 currently working on the MG Hi-Nu gundam. Lots of good looking builds.
@zgmfx008 wide variety of builds and excellent poses with very good photo quality.
@master-bigg if you like zeon kits, you will like follow master-bigg. He seems to have them all.
@wintersyear does a lot of cool diorama type work with a very military feel to them.
Again, I highly recommended that you follow these builders if you do not do so already.
Model Expo
Many Gunpla groups with their great creations
There were various contests, here are some kit of one of them.
2° place
My little Sazabi just placed second in a Gunpla contest in a local model expo. I’m shocked (and happy)
Armor up! I’m really tempted to leave it just chromed like a shining knight.
Pro
It is very nice looking, one of the best IBO easy to build Articulations permits a wide range of positions Head “transformation” is very nice, and creepy.
Cons
maybe the shoulder articulations are a bit too stiff Feet tilting really poor because is obstructed by the lateral ankle armors
Frame up! Really nice frame details. Just some minor color loss because I airbrushed the pieces directly on the sprue.
Armor chromed sprayed directly with Molotow mirror chrome with airbrush, just thinned 50/50 with Tamiya laquer thinner Black armor pieces sprayed directly with Mr Hobby Aqueos black gloss Frame primed with Vallejo Premium black gloss primer (cure time > 48 hour) then toned with Vallejo dark aluminum, grey gunmetal and gold
Let’s start this new Red Knight.
Did I say it is the coolest?
