This time of year is real important to me. 7 years ago, I was a loud performer who liked screaming, making monster faces & freestyling until I lost my voice. I built a fan base & plastered the country with my stickerized face. I was proud of my ego, I was focused on me, and I was “joey first.” And then something changed... my community picked me up, my neighbors reached out to me, my school needed help, my fellow artists wanted more. All of this lead to #hh4h Hip Hop for the Homeless. And I honestly am so grateful for the performers who give it their all, the skill and professionalism throughout the hurdles, and the feeling of camaraderie, brotherhood & friendship, which has lead to lasting relationships. December will always be marked as a time where a few artists put their revenue and schedules aside and make time to give something to their communities, and I am forever thankful and determined to do more each year. #thankyou if you’re reading this, #thanks if you shared.
