Fix it Fridays

We've gotten a lot of suggestions on how we can improve Hazbin Hotel and give it more depth. So we want to tell you all what ideas we specifically are incorporating into each episode.

Today: The Vees!

Episode 2 is the first episode with the Vees, but we've already introduced Vox and Velvette in chapter 1. Our hope was to create a more defined dynamic between the three. I (the writer for chapters 1 and 2) especially love them, they're the power of friendship turned evil in my mind.

The first thing we did was make a little Venn diagram for them. What did they have in common? What do they share with each other? What's unique to just one of them? We wanted to especially explore the idea of control, so they are written to reflect the three kinds of control we decided were the broadest and most complimentary.

Velvette has been the most fun to work through. She's perceptive, cunning, and superficial. We've decided that she's best at one-on-one manipulation, and likes to use social pressure most. Her form of control is control of media and opinions.

Vox changed the least, he's a pretty strong written character. The face of their company, he's the one in front of the camera the most. My favorite part about writing him is fleshing out how well The Vees know each other. It makes them fun foils to our getting-to-know-you Main Cast. Vox's form of control is of the masses.

Valentino has been the most challenging to work with. We really want to handle Angel's character well, and so we needed him to sound like less of a shitty boyfriend and more of a cold, well-versed, purposefully manipulative Pimp. He's an intoxicating control of one person at a time. Effective and all encompassing.
