Something about this just makes me uneasy. Clearly Takumi's mother romanticised the two of them, though how much she knows about the pair, and their - well, Takumi's - promise, is entirely unclear.
One thing is for sure: romanticism would easily be a form of positive reinforcement for Takumi- something that would encourage him to keep 'chasing' Karua, making the cycle he's in much harder to break.
