Hi, I'm Jacks (Jabbajacks) and I'm here to play and yell a bunch about Kodaka and Uchikoshi's games, so I made a sideblog exactly for that purpose. Let's have fun! Currently: The Hundred Line absorbed. Mind for spoilers

#HL rerun: home watch is where I followed my partner playing, so watch for retrospective spoilers in that.
#Takumi psych eval is where I can’t stop yapping about a certain protagonist’s mental health/identity issues and I expect to get worse- #Karutaku codependency, #Takumom talk and #Kamukura Files are related while #Umiko tag is my designated transfem Takumi tag.
I know the Takumi mum issue is contentious and I’m trying to revise my analysis, but please understand that it’s a matter of analytical readings from differing experiences, and I’m not willing to go back on the base level of it. Thank you.
canon is what happens in the text. e.g. merlin tries to poison morgana
a headcanon is a fact that you have personally made up as an elaboration of canon. it is your invention. e.g. i think morgana and gwen had a teenage lesbian situationship before the events of canon. or, i think modern morgana would love evanesence.
an interpretation is how one reads the existing text. it is not an invented fact nor is it a headcanon, it is a reading. e.g. i think merlin tries to poison morgana out of misplaced self-hatred. or, i think that one line was delivered with suppressed malice and shows a nuanced relationship.
fanon is the general fandom’s accepted headcanons and interpretations that elaborate or recontextualize canon. e.g. merlin is a badass waif and morgana is a bitch.
these are all different words with different meanings.
OKAY!! DISCLAIMER!! this is fully self indulgent because i relate to takumi a lot and i think(?) i have bpd?? hopefully i can manage this semi-coherently so ahem
also minor spoilers for comedy and vague mentions of multiple eitos (and route 0)
a lot of this is pretty self explanatory to me but let me start off with FAVORITE PERSONS. in bpd, a favorite person is someone you become strongly emotionally attached to, who you rely on heavily for validation and support, and you absolutely cannot bear to be without. and of course in takumi's case, i mean karua... i always thought it was interesting how takumi never seemed to think about his mom or dad in r0, but everything reminded him of karua, right? she was always his main focus, and i like to imagine he was kind of co-dependent on her. IF he had any other friends, no one was as important to him as she was, and he panicked when they were separated even though you'd think as a teenager he would be more worried about his parents.... ALSO!! in a few different routes, i think his favorite person shifts to other people, and he'll entirely stop thinking about karua because all of his focus now goes on his new special person. that doesnt mean he doesnt care about karua anymore, but his brain has just latched onto someone new, like the average tumblr user with a new blorbo except to him these are his REAL human relationships. i also like to think at one point in r0, eito was his favorite person and that's why takumi crashed out so bad on day 95. like, he had this idealized version of eito in his head who could do no wrong, he was someone takumi relied on, but of course he wasnt what he thought he was, which caused takumi to split. thats not really important though....
another thing is sudden plummeting self esteem when something happens. my favorite example of this is?? i believe comedy route?? where takumi goes insane over thinking that nozomi has no affection for him, i dont really remember all of the details but if youve played that route you KNOW what im talking about (i think)
impulsivity babeyyyy... i know a lot of the game requires takumi to make quick decisions sometimes but he is SO self sacrificial and impulsive its like not even funny. not to mention endurance match.... looks at you and looks at you and looks at you. oh and cult of takumi?? our boy was literally just doing anything, he dont CAAAAAREEE
apparently some more symptoms are "ongoing feelings of emptiness" and "strong anger, losing your temper often, being sarcastic and bitter, or physically fighting"
again i feel like its fairly self explanatory, honestly a LOT being from comedy, like... do you know what im talking about please say yes
Watching 'From Me To You' and meeting Shota's mother is quite telling of the differences between her and Takumi's mother. When she does the 'I wish I had a girl' tease and Shota reacts like 'well sorry -_-', you just get more bantering between the two and a bright smile from Shota at the end of it. The teasing is clearly just bants and isn't one-sided, which gives the impression she would actually check in if Shota was hurt by the comment. Takumi meanwhile muttered to himself whether he's unwanted and had to be rescued from his slump by Karua, since his mother was just saying things at the room rather than to him.
Seriously, it could've been a much different matter if she'd been talking to him! It rather amplifies my feelings that Takumi does 'comedy routines as a straight man(tm)' to offset discomfort rather than him finding something fun to riff off of, which would be fitting for how this scene feels uncomfortable, with a bare veneer of mundane humour. It also says a lot for how he barely makes himself heard by his mum, and that's if she even heard him at all- is she even listening? Who knows...
Also, I'm referring to this show! It's a high-school romance drama with the lead struggling with social cues and integrating into a group (many misunderstandings abound, even when she gets settled).
Like I did with Danganronpa, I am now compiling easily missable dialogue/monologue from Raincode and Hundred Line. I am finished with Raincode—just need to edit—and I played the first couple of days of Hundred Line so far.
Looking forward to sharing them soon enough! Chapter 0/Prologue of Raincode should be uploaded this upcoming week 😊
I love Hiruko and I wanna see more of her social failures. She's so badass and cool and skilled in so many ways but also if she had to perform something like Moko's role in the Romance Route everyone would end up dead or at each other's throats and it would be so fucking funny
Watching 'From Me To You' and meeting Shota's mother is quite telling of the differences between her and Takumi's mother. Takumi Sumino
Takumi is canonically dissociative!! Here's some Takumi Dissociation Quotes:
(While looking at himself in the mirror) "It's the same face I see in the mirror every morning... But somehow, something about it seems wrong. I don't know how to describe it... It's like this reflection doesn't "feel" like me anymore."
"And so, four days passed in the blink of an eye. [...] But because of all the stress, I barely knew what I was doing. I felt like I was wandering through thick fog every day, my memory skipping around."
"My body felt like it wasn't mine anymore. It was like I was having an out-of-body experience. Suddenly, I heard a voice. "The date is about to change..." I had no idea who said it. For all I knew, I might have said it myself without realizing."
As for him actually having alters, I won't be counting the multiple time an external thing takes over his body. But also I think his reactions to having sudden gaps in his memories are interesting under the system Takumi headcanon!! Like, sometimes he just wakes up with no memory of what happened and doesn't know how to react so he just kinda... moves on as quickly as he can.
MAJOR SPOILERS: Takumi was grown as a clone in a tube to be a child soldier, and had normal regular memories implanted in him, but he also has a fabricated reason to fight in his childhood friend Karua. But unbeknownst to Takumi, Karua is based on the real life girl named Nozomi, who snuck into the pod room and talked to him while his memories were formed and completely altered Takumi's brain-world. When Takumi realizes his past is fake and Karua isn't real, he originally wants to discard the memories he had, but through Nozomi's help comes to the conclusion that "even if the memories are fake, the way they made me feel is real" and learns to treasure Karua as a separate person from Nozomi. Even though she's not real, he carries her inside him...!! I interpret him remembering Karua encouraging him as alter Karua encouraging him in the present, and in the final scene of that route when Takumi engages on a suicide mission in order to save the planet, all his dead friends are visualized to appear behind him, and then Karua joins them, pushing Takumi forward. Karua is pretty easily interpreted as an alter even if that obviously wasn't the intention!!!
The other "whoa he's a system" thing and the thing that personally made me get into this headcanon is the route Box of Calamity. This route starts with Takumi allowing an enemy commander named Eva to be killed even after she begs for her life to be spared. Takumi starts to see Eva's ghost everywhere. In one timeline, he finds a way to communicate with the real Eva's ghost, but on another timeline he ends up hallucinating a lot, including being attacked by an unspeaking ghost in a way that leaves genuine marks on him, and later on in a haze he watches all his friends die. That's when he comes to the realization that *without him even knowing at all* he'd created a physical projection with his magic in the form of Eva's ghost, and even talks to the ghost as it being part of himself. Also, the marks the ghost caused were him completely unaware he was self harming!! He was explicitly not in control of his body!!!
Takumi to the ghost: "That makes you... me. You're my... guilty conscious." (I'd always known. We'd changed so much. I realized the invaders were more than just enemies, but I averted my eyes from the truth. [...]) "We're hideous. I knew it, that's why you're here. There were two ghosts. Eva, and you. If that's true, I'm supposed to be killed by you, but..."
Like I said before there's also the possession situations, but even outside of that it's fun to headcanon Takumi as a system!!
[The following was added through Tumblr asks later] Additions to my system Takumi headcanon about stuff I either forgot or skipped
Takumi is a time traveler and the way he's represented gaining his memories from the future is the two of them being shown holding hands and then one of them becoming smoke and disappearing into the other
There's an entire route called Multiple Eitos where he kills and absorbs the powers of his enemy/former friend (???) Eito for a SECOND TIME because of time travel stuff. Because of this, Eito's consciousness ends up stuck in Takumi's brain and gives Takumi a cognitive disorder where he sees everyone with the appearance and voice of Eito. The Eito in his brain mocks him and manipulates him and tries to take over his body, and in the various endings Eito:
a) becomes part of Takumi and won't take over anymore and will only commentate from inside Takumi's brain, but Takumi has the cognitive disorder forever, forever seeing Eito's face everywhere
b) Takumi tortures Eito and himself simultaneously because Eito can feel his pain. Eventually, Takumi stops fronting and Eito takes over, looking very sinister
c) Eito tricks Takumi into killing his friends, and Takumi is shown with Eito's eye color as Eito talks in Takumi's head about how they're one now, united in hatred.
(There's also an ending where both of them die but that's not super interesting for this headcanon)
Speaking of Eito, there's a segment in one of the routes where Takumi genuinely believes he has an Eito alter. He doesn't (though he does talk about summoning Eito's evil from inside him so... I think there's something there if you want to believe), but he blames Eito for his memory blackouts, which are caused by a timeline-hopping version of himself knocking him out and taking his place
Honestly the whole thing where he keeps hearing about himself doing things he doesn't remember is pretty interesting. There's two Takumis several times in the game!!!
There's an entire route where Takumi gets possessed by a murderous brain parasite called a G'ie, and it gives him amnesia whenever it's fronting. He starts just blacking out all the time and he has no choice but to deal with this and try to live his life protecting who and what he can protect. Other characters also get taken over, but we don't see them swapping in and out with the G'ie and instead it seems like they're fully taken over. Takumi is in a special situation though because there's no actual parasite inside him, just the remnants of its data/consciousness due to time travel stuff (again)
I still think the stuff I put into my main submission is the more compelling evidence, but my god there's so much stuff that goes on throughout the different routes that lead to there being more than one person in Takumi's head, or more than one Takumi existing at the same time, etc
Asya Shubina (alters noted by submitters: Tosya)
[Submitter did not want their submission posted. The following is mod's summary on why this character was included.] [Mod is also unaware if this is spoilers so ? watch out!] Tosya was created by Asya as a wish to have a friend. Asya learns how to love herself through loving Tosya, in a way that implies Tosya is part of her. Forcibly removing Tosya from Asya also results in amnesia and trauma.
OKAY. I've got more context stuff (kind of theory really) I wanna add for Takumi here. So under the cut for a bunch of spoilers, heads up!
The game's introduction screams dissociation. Besides Takumi narrating the entirety of the day despite it being just like any other, he reacts to the siren in the complex like he's shocked, despite what he says about it being 'mundane', and Karua is telling him about her dad's death as if he somehow doesn't know how it affects her.
He remarks that the days were all the same, and that the events had 'become normal and mundane', as if they weren't 'normal and mundane' before. He seems detached- and while he's presented as 'normal', he's the only one who 'acts calm' when the siren goes off.
His commentary about the days events feels strange, as if it's a 'collection of elements' (JP) that he's looking at rather than something he's actively in, adding to the 'detached' feeling.
Takumi has been known to forget things intrinsic to himself for a while- namely, his ability to find people as trained into him as a young child from his escapades of searching after his lost childhood friend. However, memories of this and others things come back through dreams, something otherwise only noted to happen to Kako and Shouma. There's even a 'fake memory' that was seemingly put there as a trick (the 'it was all a dream'... dream), which could have been a real (as real as pod-memories get) memory that had its context gutted. This could suggest there's a gatekeeper alter controlling memories and even at times hiding his own capabilities from him.
He has, at least a couple of times, been noted to mess around in the fountain or to very loudly mimick a drill, and then immediately afterwards he will remark that he is embarrassed, suggesting he could be switching between alters mid-textbox and regaining control of himself to be like 'WTF'??
Adding to that, there are some, frankly, baffling things that he does in the Exploration segments, such as playing Russian Roulette with himself or others lives at stake when they're unable to be revived. I'm going to guess that an alter is responsible for this as well.
He talks about 'feeling like someone is controlling him' when he is at the window in the bathroom. When he's at the fridge, he suggests pulling out stuff to 'showcase' without elaborating if it's 'to' anyone.
He speaks in and out of his own mind, sometimes talking to himself while his thoughts speak to him, and then again out loud. He is even caught in the act of doing this in the early main scenario. He also sometimes interrupts himself in his own mind to stop the thought in its tracks and correct himself, as if he thinks he can be heard.
Sometimes he can be on a train of thought that suggests he wasn't interested, but later he will say that he was curious about a situation (with Shouma's curiosity of the 'invaders' in Box of Blessings).
Romance route is particularly potent in that he appears to have multiple selves with different romantic feelings. He is under MAJOR conflict whenever he rejects someone because he thinks he 'might be wrong', and finds himself stewing deeply over it. One choice has him admit to having no feelings for anyone, and at the end of that route has a breakdown over not understanding his own feelings.
Addition to Multiple Eitos, Nozomi affirms Takumi to think about what choice is 'truest to him', at which point Takumi will be split between two vastly polarised choices. Make of that what you will.
Background and possibilities for disorder:
Takumi having been woken up in the pod and staying awake undisturbed for an extended period of time likely messed with his sense of reality, which could result in the feeling of being gaslighted heavily by the world around him- a major betrayal trauma. This on top of him having memories of being trapped in the box itself, could be its own alter and trauma-holder.
Takumi's promise to Karua would involve caring for her when she's having problems with the sirens - if she's anxious, if she runs off - because he's to take the place of her dad and protect her, which opens the door to a codependant relationship as a young child.
The way Takumi reacts to sirens in silent shock in the opening, could suggest he's been repressing his feelings about them since he was small, possibly to the point of dissociating them into an alter-state.
Takumi's mother has been noted to say 'I really wanted a daughter', implying she could have neglected her son since he was very small. The way this shows up in Takumi- questioning if he's unwanted(JP) in the opening scene while later looking back at the scene fondly, thinks about getting gifts but thinks there's 'no one to go back to', and appearing to feel empty and 'bored' about his 'mundane home life'. Neglect could amplify or at least solidify issues Takumi already has.
Takumi's memories involve living in an artificial complex (while living in a pod in an actual artificial complex) which could deeply affect mental health in the sense of there being no sunlight, which in turn could have worsened any dissociative symptoms he has.
Side note: Takumi's avatar being a girl could suggest that he is repressing a whole lot of gender issues- quite a beast when it comes to a kid with a huge 'protector complex' and 'being a dad-figure'.
This likely isn't exhaustive, but it's a lot of interesting stuff that adds up nicely imo! This isn't even accounting for the variation in theories of how the pod memories manifest, which could add even more factors in the mix (like something going 'wrong' in the simulation-dream). Long and short this boy can hold so much dissociation, wooof
