The others are sort of still in the works, but they're almost ready and I'll give an announcement when they're tossed into the pool of people that can be asked/interacted with. The pinned post has already been updated, and the tags as well.
I'm going to try and get some writing done and sort out some thoughts. Work's been sort of burning me out a little here and there so my responses and posts will probably be a little slower, but I'll be here!
(This is set a little bit after the chain with @cursed-spectre where she and her daughters visit!)
It’s midnight, the sky overcast above the Disassembly Drone walking down the stone path that lead from her tower to the house that the human she lived alongside lived in. She could see the single light that shone from the house’s window was on, likely showing that Alex was at work, yet again.
Ever since that visit from Spectre and her daughters, the young woman had been busy with things that wouldn’t wear on her wound. It made B flick her tail in irritation, moving a little quicker to the house before a quick hop had her at the height to grab the railing of Alex’s room’s balcony and easily pull herself up and over it. The sliding glass door isn’t open, a lamp on the desk shining through the glass to light up whatever Alex is working on at the little garden table she’s seated at on the balcony. She’s set up with her makeshift planning board, a large plan for something mechanical clearly laid out on the nearly meter long paper.
“What’s wrong?” B’s question was direct, as was common from her. The human glanced over, her dual tone hair of natural brown and dyed lime green was up out of her face. The scarring of the right side of her face was clear the way that Alex was sitting.
“Materials to build a core that size would be dangerous. I can’t figure out a way to adjust the shielding to make it safe.” Alex’s tone was distracted, her eyes turning toward the paper again as she sighed heavily. “I might need to just… go basic worker-”
“Just downsize.” B wasn’t really a mechanic, she wasn’t an engineer or anything of the sort, but her creator had focused everything into her AI and personality. She was able to understand things to a degree. The attention the statement got in the form of Alex’s fidgeting with her pencil ceasing let her know to continue. “That or go mech style? Though that’s a bit more draining I think. More taxing on the ‘user’ hardware right? If it needs that much-”
“B that’s brilliant!” Alex reaches to a pouch at her hip, filled with pens and pencils, highlighters and markers. A bright neon blue is pulled out.
“That’s gunna be hard to see isn’t it?”
“Not if I do this.” Alex brings out a thicker black marker, and starts with the white. It dries quick, allowing the bright blue to be outlined with little effort as she writes over her alterations in the spaces she can fit it in. After looking it over, she moves to overlay a slightly smaller page, detailing the hardware for a drone core. “And of course I need to alter the materials… and with the new measurements…” Alex smiled a bit, seeming excited as she looked over the notes she made in one corner about the safe high end of things that she was willing to barely brush. “Oh… I’m gunna come under that I think!”
“Maybe work on that later?” B’s tail twitches as she moves to open the door to the room, looking to the woman’s desk. Paperwork to finalize some contracts is done, but not put together. A few other things, her laptop out and blaring music while their digital map of the planet is up, quick routes to unexplored areas plotted out with notes for one visitor’s possible adventure was clear on it. Oddly, with all the chaos, it was still fairly clean.
“Yeah… Yeah I…” Alex is heard sighing, and B looks toward the human as she rubs her face a little bit. “I’m doing it again aren’t I?”
“Yeah. Little bit.” B steps back outside, one wing extending to cover Alex. “No one would be upset with you for it. Come inside. I’ll make tea?”
“I… yeah… Yeah I can… do that.” There’s a sigh as she stands carefully, B’s wing returning to the compartment it’s usually nestled in.
“Sit at your desk once you’re organized and put those papers together. You know that’s getting picked up tomorrow.”
“Tomorrow? Ah… right.” A hand reaches up to pat over her hair as she rolls up the large and small blueprints together. B nods and moves back into the house, slipping through the room and then down the stairs. Things were back as they were meant to be, the bolts of fabric stored away in a crate in the small workshop attached to the house, and a little attention given to the floor after Alex found herself stepping on a metal shaving that had fallen off of one of the ‘drone truffle treats’ she’d made for the visitors.
This reminded her of a tea party. The ones that were so dangerous because of the temper of the guests back before Earth became the danger it was. Steep the tea once the water had boiled, make sure it wasn’t in for too long and distributed right, then set it on the tray with two cups and some biscuits before she made her way back upstairs. The whole process took a long enough time that Alex was seated and adjusting her lamp to not be aimed at her seat outside by the time B was walking in her door.
“You made room this time too.” B observes, the U shape desk having one whole side near the monitors cleaned off properly while the rest was in what appeared to be a more organized state. The papers to be picked up were in their packet, properly labeled for the daylight hours, the laptop moved for more attention. B only blinked as she set the tea down and poured each of them a cup.
Alex took her cup as she leaned slightly back in her chair, reaching out to close the curtains that led to the balcony out of habit. No one but them lived here, so locks and curtains and whatever else were mostly habit and personal comfort things. B herself settled on the bed, as she preferred to. “Thank you B.” Alex’s voice was murmured, but B could hear it clear as day. The drone hummed in response, waiting for what she knew would come.
“Do you think he would be proud of me?” Sometimes it took her a while to breach the silence, and sometimes it never came at all. Grief was a strange beast, and it never quite left one when it truly showed up the first time.
“Proud? Maybe. You’ve come far.” B’s tail twitched at the side of the bed.
“Do… do you think he’d want this? A child?” Alex’s tone was nervous, but with her mind where it was…
“If he was alive, I’m certain he’d be excited to be considered a father.” A soft purr starts up in B’s chest, tail wagging slightly. “I know… I know if my boyfriend asked me this… I would agree.”
“You’d be a good mother B.” Alex’s head finally turned to look at the drone, a small smile on her lips. “He’s a lucky drone.” She laughs at the blush the statement brings out of her friend. “What? I can speak my mind! You did!”
“Oh hush. You’re working on the travel plans or the core material calculations?” B changed the subject, moving from the bed to stand behind Alex as the roll of plans were looked to. Alex smiled a bit as she brought the roll out and opened it to lay on the desk, careful to move other papers and her laptop.
“Well, for one I was thinking instead of the original size, maybe something more like… Horse? Llama even? Ostrich?”
The evening continued between the pair, B listening as Alex worked things out and brewing more tea when needed.
When does the fic take place, relative to the RP blog?
When I started the blog, the idea I had was that things are running parallel to the cannon story. So far, Alex and B have yet to go to THEIR Copper 9, where everything is happening.
People that interact with the blog will see posts that reference the Cannon story (with alterations made here and there since the cannon timeline is a little hard to read).
I remember seeing somewhere that this RP blog would be canon to the fic, does that mean that in the fic there’ll be mention of stuff like Sweet Jesus or necron structures?
It will be somewhat cannon.
In the fic, there will likely be references to things that happened in the blog at some points, but saying that the blog will be cannon is mostly in reference to the universe/worldbuilding aspects and the relationship that B and Alex have as well as Alex and her drones. Ash will also be cannon in the story.
