Curious, headstrong young girl had grown into a woman who had more than earned her new title, that much even Mina herself could admit. A LOT had happened since she had last seen her former teacher ( she would not quite go as far as to call the other her former master, things had never been as official between them as to be defined by such words ). Smile as polite and contained as ever — her friend would be able to see the subtle way her lips curled upwards the way they only did when she was smiling in earnest rather than entertaining a smile simply because it was polite and proper in the moment.

" I've been BUSY since we last spoke. " Her words were half accusation and half admission. You could call more often, I have missed you, I was worried about you. " Besides, I needed something to do after getting thrown out of the senate. " First Caedus had branded her a traitor and then Daala had attempted to block her from continuing her duties once she had been reinstated simply because she was a JEDI. Once again she had found herself at odds with her two paths in life and once again it was the path of a Jedi that had pulled her back in. A part of her had always known her place in the political landscape had been set on a timer from the start and yet ... it had taken outside ' help ' for her to see the path clearly.

“Dani!” There’s a pleasant surprise. “How long has it been?” Too long, to him. Not that that was saying a lot. He’s happy to greet her with a hug, pulling back to grin. 

“How was your mission? You have to tell me all about it.” His enthusiasm doesn’t diminish for a second. He does take a step back, folding his hands behind his back and righting his posture, but that’s about as far as he gets. Still with all the boundless energy of youth, he rocks up onto his toes, then backs to the flat of his boots.

“I’ve never been so far out into the galaxy before. What’s it like?”

IN THE EYE OF THE STORM, ALL WAS STILL, but around her the energies of this world swirled. Once, the Jedi had taught her to seek a oneness with the force, with the universe. Serenity. Vader commanded her to SEIZE it, bend it to her will. Now she was less certain she could do either. Her feelings betrayed her; the inner turmoil of her thoughts ( and second thoughts ) projected outwards until they manifested into her own personal hurricane. Even closed, her eyes were restless, flickering back and forth ------- only to snap open at the sound of a foot fall behind her. 

At once she was on her own feet, swiping at the mud that clung to her knees. “So,” she said, when Kestis did not deign to speak, “Have you all decided where to go next?” She hadn’t been invited to those meetings, not that she could blame them. Trilla wouldn’t have accepted, in any case. The sooner they could part ways, the better. Yet she wouldn’t entirely deny her curiosity. No doubt their list would take them to every corner of the galaxy.  

“What lucky child will be the first to receive your...shall we call it, ‘impeccable guidance’?”

   “ Do we now? ” She raised a brow in attempt to at least look a bit like she was going to LISTEN to whatever this conversation was going to be. She was surprised the other was speaking to her at all. Her name was Dani, or at least that was the name she had given the captain, who knew if she was actually telling the truth. But whatever she did say about herself it seemed good enough to keep her around. Miranda would have voiced her disagreement about this decision if she didn’t know BETTER. A lieutenant arguing with a decision the captain had made was a quick way to get court martialed, not as bad as the consequences at home but still the last thing she wanted to be confronted with, especially not considering that ‘ her ’ records had been absolutely clean of any incidents so far.

    “ I don’t think we always get a choice. Sometimes pain chooses us instead. ” She could talk a lot about pain ... but not here, not to someone she could barely trust. There had been times where she had used the pain she had endured to keep her going, to remember what she was fighting for but now that she had no clear path anymore, no GUIDANCE ... she wasn’t sure she could still live on pain and spite. “ So, you’re not a trained starfleet officer which means we’re not gonna give you a phaser but the captain seems to think your abilities are useful even without that...for some reason so you wanna tell me what training you received? Or are you entirely self taught? ” She wouldn’t believe that one moment, there was a certain technique to the way the woman fought just not one Miranda recognised, which didn’t mean MUCH in this universe.

    Normally her answer would have been a simple yes. No hesitation, no mercy. But this was no longer a place like her home had been. She couldn’t justify getting rid of people who got in the way without hearing them out first, not here, not now. Here people had the annoying habit of LISTENING, trying to argue and wasting an awful lot of time with it and she would almost say it was starting to rub off on her because she was forced to play by the rules. Nevertheless, she didn’t lower the phaser pointed at the woman. “ Nah, Starfleet doesn’t shoot first but I’ll certainly stun you if you don’t tell me what you’re doing on a Federation vessel that shows obvious signs of having been ambushed and left for DEAD. ” There was a good chance the woman tried to make money with whatever valuables she could find left behind. Considering that only about a few days had passed since the ship had been declared missing, she was sure something had to still be here unless the Ferengi had gotten to it first.

      “ If you got any information on what happened to this ship and it’s crew I’d be happy to hear it. Otherwise I’m sure we have some space for you on the brig. ” She knew that perhaps to truly embody a starfleet officer she should be a bit NICER about the whole ordeal but to her knowledge there was no reason to assume this woman was anything but a vulture trying to make some money off of whatever was left behind. Even at home that would have been looked down upon and caused OUTRAGE. A Terran stealing Terran technology for money .. a disgrace.
