Do all panels require special tickets? If so where can we buy them? Also How does nerd HQ work
No, most panels at SDCC do not require special tickets. The only ones that might are ones that are taking place outside the convention center itself - you should check the limited signings schedule carefully if you're planning to attend a panel that isn't inside the convention center or the Indigo Ballroom, just in case. If there are special tickets required for the panel you want, it'll say so.
Nerd HQ! It's set up in Petco Park, across the street from the convention center. It's open from Thursday - Sunday, 10 am - 4 pm (although people line up an hour or so in advance to get in at the beginning of the day, sometimes). Inside Petco Park they'll have a bunch of booths set up, with merch and interactive activities and stuff. They also have a lounge to relax, charge your phones, and buy some snacks to eat! The Nerd Machine's website will have lots of info on exactly what sorts of activities to expect this year. Nothing at Nerd HQ requires you to have a SDCC badge.
On top of all this, Nerd HQ holds some celebrity-focused events! They hold panels each day called Conversations for a Cause, which are almost an hour long and have space for 300 people. You MUST buy tickets to these panels ahead of time! Tickets cost $22.00 each. They've been announcing and putting Conversations tickets on sale for the past three days, and tickets go in seconds - so you're kind of out of luck for the ones that have already been announced. But if you keep an eye on @thenerdmachine and @zacharylevi, they might announce more in the next day or two, or even while SDCC is going on! Nerd HQ also hosts things called Signings for Smiles and Smiles for Smiles - autograph and photo sessions with various celebs. These literally get announced as they're beginning, and cost $20 each. If you're nearby or get yourself there quick enough, you can get an autograph or picture with a celeb! Again, following those Twitter accounts (and maybe putting them on mobile notifications) will be a huge help to stay in the know for this stuff. You should also download the Nerd HQ app, available for iOS and Android - it will give you push notifications throughout the weekend of things going on, which will be crucial since timing, for these celebrity events, is everything! None of these things require a SDCC badge, either.
Also, to note: the only parts of Nerd HQ that cost money are the Conversations, Signings and Smiles. Everything else is completely free!

All I have are Lights shirts (collected over the years), a Rihanna tee (I got it when I saw her last April) and I’m hoping to get an Arctic Monkeys tee when I see them in August.
23. How did you learn of the band that is currently your favourite?
The Arctic Monkeys. I’d seen their name floating around the internet a couple times before I finally decided to listen to them. I listened to “I bet you look good on the dance floor.” but I didn’t like it so much so I kind of forgot about them but I gave them another chance later and now I kind of like that song and I’m just obsessed with them now.
24. What celebrity do you idolize the most?
This is a hard question. I idolized Lights because she’s such an inspiration and I love her but now I have to say Marina. She has changed my life and I love that she’s not afraid to speak her mind and I relate to her so much so I go with Marina.
