Is there a continuation of the latest Voltron Family of how Shiro helps Keith after the kids are in bed?
Part 1 Part 2
The sound of footsteps that were as light as a feather could only belong to Keith. Shiro turned his head towards the door and Keith was making his way to their shared bed, ready to sleep.
“All good?” Shiro asked.
“Hunk’s snoring like an angel,” Keith answered softly, pulling the comforter.
“I wasn’t asking about him,” he looked at his husband pointedly.
Keith sighed, joining Shiro in bed. “I’m fine. I’m not even tired.”
As expected, Keith was lying. They’d been married for so many years Shiro knew that tone. He closed his book and got out of bed which confused the younger man.
“Good. Then I’m going to need your help.”
—
“You’ve got to be kidding me?” Keith said in disbelief as he and Shiro stood by the library’s entrance. New books that weren’t arranged yet to their proper shelves were scattered on tables, couches, etc.
Shiro smirked. “I thought you said you’re not tired? Plus, don’t you just love arranging bookshelves?”
“I do! But it’s ten in the bloody evening, Takashi! Are you out of your mind?” Keith let out exasperatedly.
“Need I remind you that you woke up at two in the morning to rearrange the library?” Shiro leaned over at Keith, raising an eyebrow.
“That happened once!”
“Twice actually. The other at 3am.”
“Yeah, okay. Maybe twice,” Keith huffed, both hands on his waist. “Your point?”
“You’ve gone later than 10pm,” Shiro smiled, feeling so sly.
“Unbelievable,” his husband shook his head. Then he turned around and added with a loud sigh, “I’m going back to bed.”
“Babe, wait!” Shiro quickly grabbed Keith’s arm. When Keith looked at him, patiently waiting for him to continue, he said, “I just… I thought it would make you feel better after what happened today. I know I’m not always good with my words because that’s your thing. Books always made you feel better ever since we became friends even before we started dating. They’re your escape—” he got cut off when he felt Keith’s lips on his.
“Thank you,” Keith whispered as he slowly separated himself only to lean in again to give Shiro another kiss.
Shiro gulped. “I wish I’m always there when things like that happen to you.”
“Hey,” Keith cupped his cheeks to keep him from moving, maintaining their eye contact. “It’s okay. I can take care of myself. I’m a big boy.”
“I know. But I wish it was me on the receiving end instead of you. Ever since we got married, ever since we adopted the kids…,” he paused to gather his thoughts in his jumbled brain. “I knew it wasn’t going to be easy. There will always be people who’d give us the stink eye and I was hoping that I could make it easy for you but—”
“—you can’t,” Keith finished his sentenced as he caressed his cheeks. “That’s what marriage is about, Takashi. We’re supposed to go through everything together. One just can’t have it easier than the other.” Keith frowned as he tilted his head and wiped Shiro’s eye. “Hey, don’t cry now.”
“Why are you so cool?” Shiro asked lightheartedly, choking back his tears.
That made Keith laugh softly. “I’m just trying to impress you. See if I could earn myself a date or two.”
Shiro pulled his husband into a tight embrace, burying his face into Keith’s hair. “You sure you’re okay though?”
The hold on him tightened as Keith whispered, “Yeah. I will be.”
