Spartan Saturday — Hieu Dinh
A field analyst for ONI Section Three during the Human-Covenant War, Hieu Dinh was tasked with capturing and repurposing Covenant technology. Shortly after the war's end, he was recruited into the Spartan-IV program.
While still a new recruit, Spartan Dinh's fireteam was sent on a disastrous mission into a Yanme'e hive that left him as the sole survivor. During the Created Conflict, Dinh met Spartan Eklund, who later accompanied him on a fateful mission to Camber.
Hieu Dinh is a SPARTAN-IV supersoldier serving under Commander Laurette Agryna.
Once upon a time, a kindly tiger with a loving heart adopted a sullen young girl. All of the critters in the forest and beyond couldn’t just be happy for them, though – ho noo noooo! They envied the unflappable bond of the feline and the child. Go figure. This resulted in an ugly beast called jealousy infecting countless woodland trolls who decided that their main purpose in life would be to throw a wrench into the familial bliss enjoyed by the tiger and the girl. Because haters gonna hate. Moral of the story: Protect the gift of steadfast friendship/love in your life, and of course, don’t ever let the jerkies get you down. June 3, 2021
(Los Angeles Times) -- Viet Film Fest is screening a short film series titled “Under the Same Roof” from June 1 to 15 for free.
The series features six films curated from the festival’s collections and centered on the theme of family...
... To register for the “Under the Same Roof” film series, visit vietfilmfest.eventive.org/welcome.
NOTE: This set of short films was programmed by yours truly, the Artistic Director for VFF 2021. The films, in the order they are presented:
My Father’s Truck (2013, Brazil/Vietnam; dir. Mauricio Osaki)
Hiếu (2018, United States; dir. Richard Van)
Chez Moi (My Home) (2014, France; dir. Phuong Mai Nguyen)
Like Mother, Like Daughter (2018, United States; dir. Kady Le)
The Anniversary (2003, United States; dir. Ham Tran)
Walk Run Cha-Cha (2019, United States; dir. Laura Nix)
The runtime is approximately 118 minutes and the package runs the gamut of filmmaking styles. If you are able to get to this, I hope you take away some of the many different dimensions of familial relations within Vietnamese culture - in Vietnam and among its diaspora. You can also see me speak briefly at the beginning and end of a panel discussion that features three of the above filmmakers.
And yes, it’s free - donations encouraged though!
