The blood elves and religion
At least for my version of WoW 😅
Developing the religion
The blood elves don't worship the sun, however their worship of the light is very unique. The sin'dorei began their sun motifs to differ themselves from the night elves, however that began to change when the sun well was created. To make sure that they would not over use the magic once again Dath'remar's wife, a fellow powerful fire mage, waded into the Sunwell and encased her body in flames, saying to her people how she will give herself to become the watcher of the Sunwell and her people. Dath'remar was devastated, and in his hand took one of remaining flames, he then told his people that her flame will continue to burn, and as long as her flame burns she will live on. This flame became known as ‘The Flame of the Ancestors.’
Over time, they began to reveer the sun and the Sunwell as a conduit and a connection to their ancestors.
The ‘God’ of the High and Blood Elves
The closest thing they have to a god is the embodiment of the sun, fire, and their ancestors. Whenever Dath'remar's wife gave up her life, she became ‘The Lady of the Sun.’ Though, she is usually referred to as The Lady, The Sun, and The Blessed ancestors.
The Flame Keepers
The Flame Keepers are the protecters and tenders of the Sunwell and the Flame of the Ancestors. They are a mix of a priest and fire mage, and are usually given the title of Matron. They are respected and usually live in Dawnstar Village and spend most of their time tending to the flame to ensure it never dies out.
The Flame of the Ancestors
The Flame is typically reserved for the use of funerals and remembrance rituals that are performed by champions of the Sin'dorei
The Sun's Chosen
Rarely a child becomes what some call ‘The Sun's Chosen’ but don't actually have a name. The Sun's chosen's body will slowly develop orange marking on them. They have an inherent connection to the Sunwell, creating an infinity for whatever magics are infused in it. They are also given the unique ability to be rise from the ashes, returning to life after they die. (The royal family is sometimes blessed with this ability, however unlike the chosen they can only use it once. Kael'thas is once such individual.)
Funeral Rites
After Arthas murdered and raised many Quel'dorei, they began to burn their dead with the Flame of the Ancestors, and bury the ashes as if it was a body.
